Sooo today I am driving to Detroit to pick up my wife from the airport. As I drive along I see a sign on a over pass that says

"Save lives, do not get distracted when driving"

This sign was put there by the Michigan road commision...in bright lights..
Ok....is that a WTF moment or is it just me?

Depends.

If it is in solid lights and if the message fits all on one screen and is as easy to read as your everyday highway sign, it's not such a WTF.

However,

If it is in blinking lights and/or the message either scrolls or alternates in 2 or more segments, meaning that you have to spend longer than you should trying to read the whole message, then it is a huge WTF.

[edit] Speaking of road distractions, here's a linky to a webpage on Sloggi billboards in The Netherlands. Sloggi is lingery brand. They had a massive advertisement and marketing campaign last spring and autumn. It was very succesful. Billboards and adds like that were everywhere and of course it led to plenty of public outrage, resulting in newspaper articles, editorials and columns, TV programs, blogs etc. dedicating allot of time and effort to the advertisement and thus, Sloggi. End result being, Sloggi was bombarded from a niche brand to a fact of life that everyone should know about around here. It was a very impressive PR effort.

Just google Sloggi images for your viewing pleasure and a few good laughs.

The next time you are speeding along at break-neck-velocity, I encourage you to take a picture of this sign to share with us. ;) Then we can be outraged together. :P

Oh come on, that's totally funny... There was this reality show/documentary about strippers in Denmark a few years ago. One of the girls was featured on a massive bilboard just above the exit to a rather large parking structure...

The exit was a blind spot at the best of times, as the driver couldn't see if any cars, pedestrians or anything were coming from neither left nor right, so it was a place that required a lot of attention...

Suffice to say the bilboard was only there for about a week ^^
