Phantom or Dandy?

Postby Oddysee » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:04 pm

Hmh, got a spot of bother here, I was thinking some of you might actually be able to help me with.

There's a masquerade party that I'm attending March 1st, but I cant decide what to wear.

Some things to consider are:
The party is being arranged by a bunch of Universities, so the people there are the ones I study with and walk up and down all day.

Also, they're a bunch of posh stuck up tw*ts. Period.
I'm not sure how it happened, but someone I ended up at the uni where all the self important rich kids are. This party is being arranged by them. The rule is "dress to impress", and they for some reason deem cheap cocktails to be more important than beer.

Now for the current options.
I'm pondering between either taking it all seriously, playing them at their game and turning up as the Phantom of the Opera (outfits like that are always fun to wear) or I could opt to instead have a bit of a laugh with it all, and go as a Dandy highwayman.

Phantom would be more in check with the event itself (and has the added benefit of probably not becoming too warm or cumbersome once things get goin), dandy on the other hand has a certain air around it, and being british does mean I get to pull off the accent and all for laughs. It does however bear with it the fact, that it's a bigger costume, and not as suited to be "indoors". Fear it might get a bit warm after the inital laugh, but taking off the coat somehow deminishes the outfit.

It's dawned on me as of late, that if you actually make an effort, dressing up is fun! Halloween* was a blast this year because of that, so I intend to go all out, come the occassion...

So what you reckon would be the better costume?

*I'm sorry for the facebook link. It's the only place I have the pic's hosted atm, and I'm at work. I'll fix it when I get home.

Sheer comfort and cool factor tells me that Phantom wins. :) I'm not one to go with any crowd, but there is a part of my brain that screams "respect others!" and causes me to side with Phantom. Of course, in reality, I'd probably just hit a pub with friends and call it good, rather than party in a place with people that I may not groove with all to well, yaknow? ;) But that's just me.

Dandy Highwayman has some laughability to it. :o :D But the fun factor is lost when everyone starts getting all judgmental on you over it.

Yeh those were my thoughts.
Much rather hit the pub' with the lads, but then, we do that practically all other times, so sometimes it can prove to be rather entertaining to do something you'd not normally get to do.

And besides. Sure the schools are known for their ammount of asshats and pussycat dolls wannabee's. But with so many people, every now and then, I find the other human beings who also accidently picked those schools. So I'll live if it's just the one night.

But yeh, I think I'm siding with Phantom. I like the whole "your lupins or your life!" approach, but I live in Denmark. I'm constantly surprised by how little these people know about anything. I reckon one or two of my mates would get the joke. Everyone else would jus think it's an odd costume I made up myself...

Was at an 80's party. Decided to go against the "80's workout" crowd, and instead showed up as a Thundercat...

1 person, out of the lot, understood what I was doin... Everyone else just moaned at me for ruining their fun... People are retarded.

Oh well, but another vote for the Phantom then... Now to see where I find a suit like that, for a semi affordable price.

And a mask. Hmh, what you reckon, elastic band, or theatre glue?

 Tm

The band has a slight cheese factor... while glue is pretty die hard. However, you may want to take off the mask to give your face some air at SOME point in the night. ;)

Go as Ross Perot. Then change wardrobes mid-party because you were indecisive. Hehe

well there are many options to comfort and classy or fun, You can do the Phantom , a Count, Ceaser, a Scotsman, King Henry, Zorro, Ninja, British Spy, Gladiator, there are just so very many options that can be easy to assemble comfortable, Classy or just plain fun, I would say strive to be different but most of all cool and comfortable a mask that is hot and stuffy to pull it together can make for a very stuffy night.
