Looks like some clever guy is having visions of the future with modern technology. That's what I like to see. ;)

That's amazing. And it's really simply made.

On a little side note, what did happen to VR helmets? There were those in mid 90's, I think a bit before 3d graphic cards became common. I remember seeing people playing DoomII and wearing the helmets. Sure, it was a gimmick back then, a big and expensive one. But still, how come they just disappeared?

Technology wasn't viable in that state. The processing power to render a 360 (or 180) degree environment and track the player's orientation in it wasn't there, so everything ended up being made with huge polygons and looking horrible. It wasn't just the problem of trying to get it to work from the viewer's perspective but there weren't any reliable ways to interact with VR space in 3d. It was -almost- there, but didn't quite make it to the market. So, no practical applications and it goes poof. lol

There's some interesting things going on with VR and video games in the frontiers of medical training that may open a commercial market to take VR past novelty entertainment and allow it to flourish like we all thought it would.

I suppose the way around the "only one person's point of view works at one time" is to go back to the old VR helmet styles where each participant had an environment rendered for them from thier own perspective. There's still details to be worked out but it's promising. :)

Good find, Firia! <3

That is definitely incredible, really good stuff there.

Head-tracking VR was awesome, I used a few home models myself in 2000, but it was very low-end stuff, only Quake 1 would even run on it. But it WORKED, it was just too expensive to really market.

Nowadays it's far less about the goggles and more about improving the ability to interact with the display.

That head-tracking interface in top post could easily be fitted onto a pair of e-d glasses ( http://edimensional.com/product_info.ph ... ucts_id=28 ), used on a half-moon display setup ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq52x6LmUew ), and the result would be some seriously insane VR awesomeness.

If only I had the money, that would be my dream machine.

just watched his other stuff. He has a system made using the Wiimote where you can do the whole Minority Report type on thin air thing and create an interactive white board.

Think of all the pr0n you could watch with 3D...! Now you can trully understand all those different Kama Sutra positions.
