Of Course! (brief rant)

I'm filling in for the executive secretary today and I did on Thursday and Friday as well.

So I'm sitting here this morning and I overhear the Assistant Director talking to the Director on the phone about letting people go early today. So here I am getting all excited about this news. Only, of course, this doesn't apply to me.

She just came out and said to me "if I start letting people trickle out of here early, can you stay and watch the phones until the end of the day and I'll give you time off some other time?"

*blink*

In my mind I'm saying, "you know I'm doing this as a favor to you. You know it is not my fault that you let both your secretary and her assistant have off at the same time. Nor is is my fault that you have a receptionist who, for whatever reason, does not have to watch the phones (yeah.. process that one a second)!!" But of course I smiled and said, "sure, no problem."

*grrr*

Granted it's not a really huge deal. I mean I did plan on being here all day and although I have a party to go to, I'll still have 90 minutes to get ready for it after I get off work. But it just irks me on principle alone. Sometimes I think I'm too doggone nice.

Unfortunatly I work until 1am and alone and manage myself, so I dont have that option. I might just leave work early though if its slow.

*laughs* that is just too easy. Not that the Government cannot and does not foul things up on a frequent basis, but unless Vallikat is employed by the Government they are Innocent (at least of this).

and to Kathy, If you think you are being to nice, then that is a possibilty. The Question is would not being as nice cost you the job, and if keeping the job is important enough to overlook the occasional feeling of being taken advantage of.

Well to be fair, it wasn't so horrible. It turned out that they only got out an hour early so I spent that last hour playing solitaire. The phone never rang even once. Also she did say I could take an hour off some other time to make up for it. Then just before she left she told me that she might even do something more for me as well.

So a bit annoying at the time but may turn into something good down the track. Something about clouds and silver linings comes to mind.
