So I'm trying to get AO to work on linux and I'm having trouble on the updating. I'm trying to go from 17.5.2 to 17.5.3 and i'm getting an error saying I don't have administrator permissions. I've installed the game and many patches fine so far without trouble. I even tried getting it from
http://www.anarchy-online.com/wsp/anarc ... ,1070,1089 and it still won't work. I also tried loging on as root and it gave me the same error message. Are there any GSPers that are running AO on linux or could someone post this on the AO forums for me.

Yeah but not one specific to my problem. Since you can't search without a paid account I have no way of finding any AO linux thread without going page by page.

I found this discussion, looks like it might be what you were talking about...
http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showth ... p?t=506339
Looks like that relates directly to your problem, some additional info and updates here:

And some discussion of the issue on the all purpose linux discussion here:

Hopefully that will help!

Thanks that helped me a little bit. I'm still getting the same error messages tho. I think I need an old version of the AO patcher. Someone posted a link to download one but it was gone.

You have windows available to you? I had to install and patch on XP and then use ssh to access the linux computer and copy the freshly patched client over to my wine drive. Up untill I did that I was having to update my version.id file to trick it in to thinking I was patched, went okay aside from not having that big eyesore in the middle of newland lake, seeing people fly by like they were riding a broomstick and having new clothing items show up as a pink skin instead of halloween boxers.
