EST should be GMT -5.

We're still in DST, though, so right now it's -4 instead of -5.

Jugs,

You're in the same Time Zone as I am. Go into your Profile and change it to:

(UTC-5:00) Eastern Standard Time [Eastern Time (US & Canada)]

I believe the website auto adjusts for Daylight Savings Time, as I've not changed my profile time in years.

Once you've selected that line from the drop down list, click Update Profile and you should be good.

Hope that helps!

Dani

The website *might* adjust for daylight savings, but the forums do not. I have to change it twice yearly between GMT-6 and GMT-5 and I've had to do so for about 4 years now. All of the phpBB boards I'm registered on work the same way, they don't remember daylight savings time which kinda sucks, although the vBulletin boards do.

Or just live in hawaii and always be -10 from GMT. No worries about Daylight Savings Time ;).

A really handy site is http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ You can see at a glance exactly what time it is anywhere in the world, Then all sorts of info is available like what + or - GMT you are if you click on your city or a city that is actually in your time zone.

Yes Jeni, Iraq is currently on day light saving time..

Now if we could just get the Brits to say BST in summer instead of GMT.. there would be a LOT less confusion!
UTC/GMT is constant, never changes :)

But we do!

(Obviously I can't speak for people that get confused and say GMT when they mean BST - the poor misguided fools!* - but they're seen as completely distinct things, and generally most people know not to talk of GMT when we're during britsh summer time, everything time related I can remember always has reffered to as BST in the summer time, and only referred to GMT in the winter...)

*Of course, I myself can never remember if the clocks go back or forward in the autumn, but that's a whole different issue and completely understandable and not foolish at all ;)

Spring forward/Fall back. Easy-peasy. :)

Now if we can just get people in the eastern time zone to figure out that EST is not short for "Eastern Time" it is short for "Eastern Standard Time" and therefore an entirely different thing from EDT all manner of things will be well. :)

We call it Autumn too, Dyna. It's just an easy mnemonic that I learned as a child is all. ;)

I never realised that. I mean, I assumed Americans were aware of the existence of the word "Autumn" ;-) But I thought everyone always called it "Fall", I never knew both words were used...
