Robert Jordan passed away yesterday after a struggle with a pretty bad illness.

I just heard about this this morning. He had apparently been battling for quite a long time. His wife never left his side. If anyone has a means to reach her (I'm sure there's one in the article somewhere), I imagine she'll appreciate the support.

I never read the books because it didn't seem like a style that would suit me, but I know how coveted he was in contemporary fantasy circles. I hope his family does okay from here on.

Yea, his wife was at his bedside as he passed...and as is in movie theatre style...his last words were to tell her he loved her. :(

I've read about half the series.

He made the announcement about his illness about a year and a half ago from what I understand.

You would be surprised, I never thought I would like the books that much, but I picked up The Knife Of Dreams (Book 11) in a dollar store not too many months back, and although I am missing a large part of the story, it was enough to make me want to get the previous books..

If and when any more details are posted, I will update things...

Oh and for anyone that is worried.. yes the series will be completed.

yes, yes he was. I am in process of re-reading the series again. He posted a blog on his site not too long ago saying he felt fine. I wonder if he was just putting up a brave front for his fans.

*blinks* That's so strange... I haven't thought about Wheel of Time in a long time, and was just thinking about it this morning. Wondering how the series had progressed (I got up to book 9, I think), thinking about the characters.... So strange. I'm sorry to hear that.

I read most of the series, but lost interest after the characters changed too much for my liking, but he was a damn good author.

might bea bit dated..but bump for this.

Was a sad day to see him pass. I liked his series..his constant shift of structure kept me on my toes.

(course now..hes gone..the series might never be finished..or if it is..will takes ages to get thru his notes. He was on his last book of the series before he pased on)

Oh damn, well I've told a few people this but back in Jr High when I was first reading the Wheel of Time (When only the first two or three books had been written and the people were crying "Hey, he ripped off a bunch of other writers! Aiel are Fremen!" etc) there was an picture of Robert Jordan on the inset of the cover. My first reaction was "Damn, I hope this guy doesn't die before he finishes the series".

One of the writers at the top of my list along with Orson Scott Card and Ursula K Le Guin, and he'll be missed. If you haven't, read his earlier works under his pen name Reagan O'Neal too. :)
