I saw this yesterday ... I was completely stunned.

I love the crowd's reaction, and Simon's face. (wtf?!)

There was nothing "pop" about his voice.

Then your assumption is just that.

Whoa, that was an amazing voice!

I'll give American Idol one and only one prop; It is a great opertunity for amature singers to get heard in an industry that wouldn't normally give these people the time of day. I don't know if he's the sort of matterial that shows like this target, but you can be sure, SOMEONE that can use it heard that voice, and Paul will be getting opera offers up and down the block. :)

Congrats Paul. :) Hang up the phone. you're a winner. ;)

Nice healthy attitude like that, you should be able to live out the rest of your life without moving the rock. :)

There exists not an essence of culture, counter-culture, or sub-culture that couldn't be labelled in some way to be "pop", "overplayed", or simply easily categorized and stereotyped. Including but not limited to every single thing you DO enjoy.

So give up the picketing and watch the damn movie clip. ;)

defeKt wrote:Who says I'm picketing? I'm just refusing to watch a random video posted on a forum by someone I don't know. Given, I'm telling everyone why, but I'd be more of a pretentious ass-hole if I didn't.

And furthermore, if you think that it hasn't dawned on me that there is no counter-culture anymore, you're dead wrong. But just like Buddhism exists despite the Christ-virus, I hate pop culture regardless of it's pervasiveness. If you have a problem with that, then be the mature adult you claim to be and ignore me.

I was picking on you, but I'm up for crackin' craniums if you are. :) If you weren't picketing, you wouldn't have posted anything and just moved on. Instead you felt the need to proclaim to the masses your great war of all things "Pop" and explain your almighty reason for not watching this trifling icky thing as you dangle it before you and hold your nose to spite it's praise. If you're going to rate something without watching it, maturity is immediately disqualified as a factor in the scenario. You'd have avoided being picked on if you had ...pause for effect... been the mature adult you claim to be and ignored the thread. :)

Since I've never claimed to be a mature adult, I just gotta throw my two cents in..

Main Entry: popular culture
Part of Speech: n
Definition: contemporary lifestyle and items that are well known and generally accepted, cultural patterns that are widespread within a population; also called [pop culture]

Now I'm just drawing conclusions here... but... the Internet, and posting ones opinions on it have become Pop culture. That being the case, with this thrown it to boot...

This should be a pretty short flame war.
