Wing Commander Saga Seeks Voice Talents

Postby Gridfan » Wed Apr 18, 2007 4:56 pm

With the Prologue campaign finished, we need more voices to round out our voice talent. :)

Previous voice work for another mod is preferred, but not required. Candidates should be serious and be able to sound like someone in their 20s. Openings are for miscellaneous ships and roles, with a strong emphasis on Confed fighter pilots.

We're also auditioning for a few major roles in the campaign, candidates must sound like an older person in their 30s to 50s.

So take your chance to become a part of the Wing Commander Saga. You can post here, or send me an email (tolwyn@gmxpro.net), it is up to you. We are looking forward to hear from you soon.

For more information, visit our website at http://wcsaga.com/

Voice Type: various

Deadline: There is no real deadline... yet. We are still in the process of finalizing mission, optimizing models & textures, etc. There are a lot of uncasted minor roles and several major roles (~100 lines)

Auditions: You could try following lines:

The area's clear of hostiles, waiting on you
Understood, engaging your target.
IFF confirmed! Hostiles inbound!
This is Bravo Wing, we're closing on your location

Note! I'm currently in the voice actor pool as well as Sound Engineer on this. So if you get the thumbs up by Tolwyn you will have to deal with The Griddler er... I mean, me later! :)

You'll need a mic (obviously) and be able to record pretty clear dialog. (not too much background noise)
Also make sure to avoid to much "breath" when speaking the dialog. (breathing in-between speech is no issue as that can be edited out easily later)
It's better to speak too loud than too soft, just make sure that it's not so loud as to get recorded distorted though.

If your mic/room has a lot of room sound (reverb) speak softer or as a cheap sound proofing try throwing a towel over yourself and the mic or drag the mic and yourself into a closet or into bed under the covers.

Anyone are welcome to try out, whether you are a GSP dj/member/dancer or a listener.
What do you get in return? Well, not much really except being listed in the game's credits and hearing your voice in the game, and bragging rights obviously :)
Wing Commander Saga is a recreation of various Wing Commander (1-3) events from a different perspective using the open source modified Freespace2 game engine. Check out the Saga site for more info.
The game will be standalone with a installer, and available for free.

(abuses his powers to make this thread sticky for a week or two :) )

Deadline: 31.05
Voice Demo: if you have a voice demo feel free to include it as well
Recording Quality: 44000 KHz, mono, mp3/wav/ogg

Character Roster (incomplete, there are simply too many minor roles to list here)

You - Main Character

Second Lieutenant David “Sandman” Markham
Age: 23
You play the role of Sandman, a young college graduate who has just completed flight school. Commissioned right after the Battle of Earth, “Sandman” Markham is no different from the other young idealistic rookies who are determined to make a name for themselves. Eager for assignment on Confed’s mainstay fleet carriers, you are disappointed when you get your orders to the TCS Wellington, an old miserable light carrier running backwater duty away from the frontline. Dying from boredom, every night you dream of flying daring strike missions from fleet carriers. Sandman’s dream tragically comes true when the Wellington goes down and he is reassigned to the TCS Hermes. Now he really has to prove himself, or face the fatal consequences.

Auditions:
- Routine patrol, ready to go.
- Sensors say one light carrier and one destroyer.
- Hermes Control, I’ve run into a light carrier and escort! Greywolf is down! I repeat, my flight leader is down! Please advise!

Primary Wingmen

These are the wingmen you will primary fly with on your tour on the TCS Hermes. You will have an opportunity to fly with them depending what squadron you are assigned to. Remember that these are wingmen with their own skills, precision, and opinions. While they are required to fly with Sandman, they are not required to like him. Some will be friendly to Sandman while others might not.

“Assassin”
Rank: First Lieutenant
Squadron: Hell’s Archers
Age: 24
His callsign relates his demeanor during battle, Assassin takes out the enemy quickly, efficiently and without any signs of remorse. His flying style prefers lighter, nimbler fighters that allow him to outmaneuver his opponents and take them out with guns. Outside the cockpit he's a fun guy to be with, and talking to him you'd never know there was a war going on.

Auditions:
- Hermes Command, any update on the Kilrathi’s base of operations? Something this slippery has got to be a force recon unit of some type.
-They’ve dropped off the scope. Major, should we engage?

“Psychopath”

Rank: Captain
Squadron: Mud Sharks
Age: 26
Cynical and jaded to the core, this seemingly sadistic pilot has a very low B.S. tolerance and doesn’t mince words. But he is an outstanding pilot and an even better marksman. Against the Kilrathi he is ruthless and unforgiving, and is even worse to the anyone gets on his bad side. He is definitely someone you want on your wing, assuming he thinks you’re good enough. He is not much older then the other Lieutenants, but got a battlefield promotion to Captain due to his leadership.

Auditions:
- Sandman. Obey my orders, fly at a level somewhere above “shitbird”, don’t get in my way and we’ll get along fine.
- We’re all expendable, including me. Get used to it.

“Phalanx”
Rank: Captain
Squadron: Blood Hounds
Age: 27
The Pragmatist. He is a skilled flyer with a calm, relaxed demeanor... but who can be deadly serious when the situation calls for it. Understanding a scenario, a wingman, or an enemy as objectively as possible is usually his goal... it's often the best way to stay alive.

Auditions:
- Definitely Kilrathi. One heavy carrier, Bhantkara-class. Two heavy cruisers, four destroyers, and two corvettes
- Sandman, are you receiving this laser link?
- Kilrathi reach maturity a lot faster than humans. It’s actually quite interesting . . .

“Greywolf”
Rank: First Lieutenant
Squadron: Blood Hounds
Age: 25
Greywolf is a swash-buckling, gregarious, ‘I love the smell of napalm in the morning’ type of pilot. He is loud, cocky and outspoken, but he flies (and drinks) as hard as he talks. He is a natural pilot with a lively, aggressive, playful flying style, but is sometimes too focused on a target, leaving his six undefended. Greywolf also has a special attachment to Earth’s past, especially in the 20th Century. His obsession with saying old quotes is just a small clue to how deep his knowledge of literature, history, and pop culture runs. He has a pet kitten, named Lafiel, which he keeps in his room back on the carrier.

Auditions:
- Confirming, establishing flight coordinates now.
- Well apparently this suburb is going downhill. We ran into some Kats at our last nav point. $

Haley “Honeybear” Hasselbeck
Rank: First Lieutenant
Age: 23
While Honeybear is a mediocre dogfighter, she is an outstanding bomber pilot. She is an expert in torpedo attack and atmospheric bombing, and flies very defensively. Off duty, the tall, blonde Honeybear strikes a stunning figure, and the fact that she is already married has tantalized and tortured many of her male peers.

Auditions:
- So . . . Sandman . . . didn’t think I’ll be flying with you again. .
- Thank you for pointing that out, Mr. Negative. Why don’t you just do us a favor and keep the fighters off our back while they are still in jump shock?

Primary Squadron Leaders

Sandman is under the direct command of these four squadron leaders plus the Wing Commander himself. They will give out the mission breifing, and sometimes fly with Sandman in missions. As Sandman switches squadrons, so does the fighter he flies, the squad leader he takes orders from, and the wingmen he flies with.

Blood Hound Leader – Major “Swollen” Baws was your squadron leader onboard the Wellington, who helped Sandman go through the ropes. Now that they are onboard the Hermes, he is now assigned as the new CO of the Blood Hound Squadron. Major Baws is relaxed and easy going.
Age: 35
Auditions:
- I am Major Baws, the new squadron leader for the Blood Hounds. Some of you might already know me from our time on the Wellington. Today, our squadron is on rotation for the next patrol duty. I will be pairing up the new pilots with veterans from the squadron, so the newcomers can be broken-in. Sandman, you will be assigned to Greywolf. You two will be Alpha wing, this time around, I want Sandman in the lead.

Hell’s Archer Leader – Lt. Colonel “Little John” Gerhardt is the squadron leader of one of the Arrow squadrons. He’s an intense competitor who sets extremely high standards for his squadron.
Age: 38
Auditions:
- Afternoon, Archers. In the few hours we’ve been in the Nifelheim system, the scout Jim Bowie has been combing the area in hopes of striking gold before leaving us to. Just before jumping out to her new assignment, she detected a large amount of signal traffic emanating from the asteroid belt near Nifelheim VIII.

Mud Shark Leader – Major “Codiene” Dellaney is the new leader of the squadron notorious for having the highest death rate in the Fleet (the previous CO was killed of course). Because he's younger then other squad leaders, he's not as calm or hardened as one would expect. Dellaney means well, but he is sometimes impulsive and has a temper. Due to the “curse” running around the outfit, he normally stays on the sidelines and lets Psychopath, the acting squad exec, do most of the in-battle leadership.
Age: 30
Auditions:
- Recent updates reveal that the Kats are still gunning for us, hot and heavy. The Kilrathi have spread themselves out so they can search for us better, but the nebula is also hampering their conditions as well. Analysis indicates that as long as we can avoid them, they will not reach us before we jump into Torgo. Although this is the case, both the Captain and Colonel Walker would like us to be out of the system quickly.

William Tell Leader – Major “Mastermind” Ramius is the commander of one of the wing’s bomber squadrons. He is calm, clear, and level-headed to see the big picture. He lives to kill Kilrathi capital ships.
Age: 40
Auditions:
- After our ambush in Loki, we’re not repeating the same mistake jumping into Cairo. We don’t have any intel assets in Cairo, so the scout role has been given to our squadron. I know that the Longbow wasn’t designed to handle advanced scouting missions, but the fact that we’ve been asked to do this recon proves that it’s all about the man, not the machine.

Gallahads Leader - Nick “Venom” Jones (alias, real name unknown)
Rank: Lieutenant Colonel
Age: 35
Special Operations veteran. Former active duty Space Force pilot. Everything about him is unknown, an anomaly. No known family or next of kin. His age, education, personal background, even his real name, is classified by the Office of Naval Intelligence and only accessible to those with the highest security clearance. His codename, both as a pilot and as a spook, is ‘Venom’

He is a highly experienced and skilled warrior. He is an expert in all types of space fighter combat, individual firearms, explosives, sabotage, and hand-to-hand combat.

Auditions:
- Welcome to the Galahad Squadron. I am your new squadron leader, Lieutenant Colonel Jones, callsign Venom. Some of you know me as the ONI officer from the scout Jim Bowie. Others are familiar with me from other, let’s say, previous engagements. I have a very simple chain of command here: I take orders directly from the Admiral, and you take orders directly from me.

Wing Commander – Colonel Shane Walker is the Wing Commander of the TCS Hermes. A native from Texas, he is a tough and seasoned veteran who has seen his share of combat with the Kilrathi many times over. To say that he's a hardass is an understatement. He's tough, but a fair leader that everyone in the flight wing looks up to. When Sandman and the primary wingmen are assigned to the elite Galahad Squadron near the end of the campaign, they will take their orders from Colonel Walker.
Age: 45
Auditions:
- Ensign Sweeney, when the Air Boss is ready with the full magnum launch, give me a holler, understand?
- Hell’s Archer Squadron, this is Colonel Walker. Your squadron’s on standby alert, and as you know your birds are prepped and ready to go. We have just received an SOS from the TCS Kinney. She’s just jumped in from another system, being chased by at least three carriers, and that many fighters and bombers.

Other Squadron Leaders

Sandman and company will also work with other squadron leaders onboard the Hermes fighter wing. These squadron leaders are also respected leaders in their own right and are vicious warriors.

Sparrowhawk Leader: Major “Lee” Simpson. Commander of an Arrow squadron.

Great White Leader: Lt. Colonel “Jaws” Harpel. Commander of a Hellcat squadron.

Burma Tiger Leader: Major “Ken” Lao. Commander of a Hellcat squadron.

Storm Lords Leader: Lt. Colonel “Bobbie” Rosenbusch. Commander of a Thunderbolt squadron, and the Hermes Deputy Wing Commander.

Angel Heart Leader: Lt. Colonel “Thresh” Klier. Commander of a Longbow squadron.

Naval Personnel

[b]Admiral Rumley
– Of British royalty, the aristocratic and upper-crust Rumley is a contrast to the rough and tumble nature of Colonel Walker. But he executes his missions with poise and dignity. He had served with Admiral Tolwyn during the last few years of the war and has distinguished himself in the Battle of Earth. He puts complete faith in the pilots under his command.
Age: 55
Auditions:
Officers and crew of the Confederation Forward Fleet, this is Admiral Rumley speaking. It is official. At 1438 hours today, President Quinson and the Confederation Senate has approved the use of the Temblor on the Kilrathi homeworld. In less then 10 hours, we will commence operations to deploy the Temblor Bomb against the Kilrah System.

Escorts

During the campaign, Sandman and company will sometimes associate with the other capital ships that comprise the Hermes battlegroup. These ships have very few lines. At most maybe 2, one to say “I’m taking damage”, another to say “I’m blowing up”.

(Pernament escorts)
TCS Astoria – Heavy Cruiser (destroyed in Mission 15)

TCS Baltimore – Heavy Cruiser (stays alive the whole campaign)

TCS John Paul Jones – Destroyer (stays alive the whole campaign)

TCS Fletcher – Destroyer (destroyed in Mission 15)

TCS Valliancourt – Destroyer (destroyed in Mission 2)

TCS Bentley – Destroyer (destroyed in Mission 15)

(temporary escorts)
TCS Savannah – Light Cruiser (Coral Sea group, joins with Hermes after Mission 15)

TCS Damascus – Destroyer (Coral Sea group, joins with Hermes after Mission 15)

TCS Battleaxe – Frigate (Kinney group, joins in Mission 13, destroyed in Mission 15)

(other warships)
TCS Achilles – Heavy cruiser (from Invincible group)

TCS Agamemnon – Heavy cruiser (from Invincible group)
...............................

Other Carriers

The Hermes may be one of the main carriers on the front lines, but it doesn’t fight alone. In addition, the Hermes will sometimes be assigned to work with other carriers in the Confed fleet. Teamwork is essential. All of these are minor roles. The ones with “minor” are minor-minor roles.

TCS Langley – Ranger-class light carrier (seen in Mission 9, destroyed in Battle of Freya)

TCS Ticonderoga – Ranger-class light carrier (seen and destroyed in Battle of Freya)

TCS Kinney – Lexington-class heavy carrier (destroyed in Mission 13, minor role)

TCS Invincible – Concordia-class fleet carrier (seen in Battle of Freya, survives)

TCS Bradshaw – Lexington-class heavy carrier (destroyed in Battle of Freya)

TCS Armageddon
– Confederation-class dreadnought (seen in Mission 10, and when you fight the losing “Defend Earth” series – minor role )

TCS Lincoln
– Lexington-class heavy carrier (seen when you fight the losing “Defend Earth” series – minor role)

TCS Saratoga – Concordia-class fleet carrier (seen when you fight the losing “Defend Earth” series – minor role)

TCS Kennedy
– Lexington-class heavy carrier (seen when you fight the losing “Defend Earth” series – minor role)
....................................

Other Ships

Halo Round – A transport in a convoy carrying Vega Govenor Houseman.

Fort Crockett Installation
: Vega Naval Base that gets nuked in Mission 4

TCS Jim Bowie - A scout ship crewed by Naval Intelligence spooks. Assigned to the Hermes on a temporary basis. It is mainly their efforts that the Hermes finds out the Loki System is a good place to test the Behemoth.
...........................

Redshirt pilots

Besides the primary wingman, Sandman will encounter other pilots, either from other squadrons on the Hermes or from different carriers. These are very minor roles, each one is probaly in 2 missions at most.

Valkyrie Leader: Commander of an elite Hellcat squadron from the TCS Bradshaw. She has a thing with playing Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” when his squadron attacks.

Great White Two: A Hellcat pilot from the Great White Squadron.

Tsunami Leader
: Lt. Colonel Kim. Commander of an elite Thunderbolt squadron from the TCS Langley.

Sky Demons: A Longbow pilot from the TCS Bradshaw

Scarlet Speedster Four
: An Arrow pilot from the TCS Kinney. He nearly goes to pieces when his carrier goes down.

Dragon Master Three: Eight Ball. A Thunderbolt pilot from the TCS Kinney. Level-headed even during the loss of his carrier. He becomes a Mud Shark pilot.
.........................................

Assclowns

These idiots exist for only one thing. To die. Oh okay, I meant two things, to die and to look like a horses ass when they die. At most these get maybe one or two lines as they perish.

Mud Shark Two
: “Pothead” Meets an untimely end in the first mission. (make sure he sounds like a loser/stoner)

Blood Hound Ten
: A Hellcat pilot who meets his untimely end at the hands of a few Sorthak.

Storm Lord Eight: “Dammerung”. A Thunderbolt pilot from the Storm Lords. (it's someone who can sound like an dickhole)

Burma Tiger Nine
: “Icewolf”. A rookie Hellcat pilot from the Burma Tigers.

Storm Lords 3
: Captain Amundrud. Thunderbolt pilot from the Storm Lords. (someone who sounds like a guy about to crack)

Storm Lords 4: “New” A newbie. Psychopath hates his guts.

Dragon’s Masters Seven: Ex-TCS Kinney pilot who leaks the Kinney’s nav info to the Kilrathi. His punishment is swift.

Wing Commander is soooo my fave sci-fi flight sim series, was so disapointed when Origin became a bunch of asses and dropped all their game lines to do Ultima Online and nothing else.

Such seems to be the fate of all the game studios I love though, they all stop producing good games after they realise how much money they can rake in with MMORPGs.

Wing Commander Privatere, the original, best game ever.
