I found this site quite nice www.speedtest.net instead of just looking at numbers of your speed you get a nice visualization that allows you to comprehend it more. Try it out and see first had how much your ISP is screwing you on upload speeds.

No, I did not even get laid!

Anyone with decent broadband can make the needle go past 6m but what was your upload speed. Mine barley peaks just over 512k.

What is latency?

It's not entirely accurate - I get a different speed on each computer

At home, with a Torrent going, IRC, XFire, Hamachi and a few other bandwith-consuming things going (logmein, + others)

I hate the upload speed for time warner cable

Mivat try the Swedish one, you should get the best speeds from Norway to that one.

And for those wondering about latency, the lower the better.
As an example, if a soundcard has a latency of more than 80ms (DirectX standard) then you can notice a audible delay between microphone and speakers.

There is 1000ms in a single second.
And latency basically means how soon after your computer say "hello" that the other computer/server respond with "hi there"

Looking at my results above (and taking into account the other runs I did),
I should in theory be able to do a live music recording sessions with me, a guy in Sweden and a guy in Denmark at the same time.

Ideally latency should be 100ms or less, but don't be surprised to see upwards to 500ms (half a second) around the world. (which is pretty bad esp. if you do a lot of audio streaming or play games online that are sensitive to "lag")
Note! AO do not suffer that much from high latency, although obviously a very low latency is better, even with AO.

You rarely notice high latency or even low or unstable speeds when surfing,
we who DJ in GSP (or have DJ'ed) notice quickly though, as well those of you who listen to GSP often, or watch live video feeds on the net, or voice chat.

PS! Speeds and latency vary depending on hardware failures around the net,
time of day, day of week, time of year, what is currently happening in the world right now,
Angelina Jolie doing a nipple slip,
if a new home porn video of a celebrity has been leaked,
and if a new movie, game, or some religious incident has occurred.
The only speeds and latency that can be guaranteed are those in your own home on a LAN (Local Area Network) between two of your own computers,
and even then latency and speed are not always consistent. (though latency tends to be less than 1ms in those cases)

Ill have to try this at home, on both my normal box and my circa 1993~1995 hackbox with the 14k modem 8P

I get the porn video, new movie, game, religious incident, cult, day, week, time, etc... but Angelina Jolie has that much control over the internet? DUDE!
