Anyone going to be playing?

I think I'm going to give it a shot. Seems nice and complex, has a TON of different Class/Race/Profession combos available. Complete and separate sphers of Adventuring (combat), Crafting (tradeskills), and Diplomacy (NPC/Eviromental/Gamechanging events).

I've only looked into it over the last 3 days (goes live Jan 26th if you preorder ... live to the public Jan 30th i think) after being purswayed to do so on the AO forums, and have been pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately AoC seems to lose more and more of my interest as time passes, and changes are made/announced and also is still a ways away from release so this may be a nice gap filler.

The good points to me are ... it uses an "skill point" system that seems to loosely mimic AO's IP system. Diplomacy has a chance to actually change the game world (i.e. who controls a city, what buffs a city gives etc.) and will be independant to each realm. <--- HUGE ++ for me. RP wise seems to be a very open ended with alot of room to play with. Also the community (from some from some forums i've skimmed) seem to be very adult oriented about 25+ crowd.

After I give it a whirl I'll let ya know what I think of it, and would be cool to meet up with some people there as well. I'll most likely be on the RP server as a Monk or Disciple.

qft :) '

I just got a nice bonus though after me and my team just kicked ass with some server migrations here at work so i'm splurging lol. I will admittedly though not have this as a primary game atm, i'll pay for one month check it out see what its like, and if I do stick with it it will be pretty much for RP and just chilling, exploring the fields wandering from city to city with GSP in my ears, while WoW will still be my primary/pvp game. AO i'm still prepaid until May, so I'll worry about that when the time comes if I renew or not ... very seriously considering migrating it back to froob status as a full time deal.

lol nah to put it simply we took old shit, and replaced it with new shit, all before schedule and at a discount price (which i can't take credit for), but it was cool.

oh here is the official pitch for Vangaurd:
About Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
The only limits are your own in Telon. The adventurous can choose from multiple paths of exploration within the three spheres of advancement: adventuring; crafting; and diplomacy. Players can delve into the mysteries of Telon, and embark upon quests to slay monstrous beasts locked deep inside rugged mountain ranges. Those with a quick mind can use diplomacy to convince kings to move armies and change the course of history. With player-crafted boats, flying mounts, and customizable player housing, “Vanguard” offers players a world of their own choosing.

I'll definately try out Vanguard. Been talking a lot to people that has been in the beta, and even while there ARE some bugs (of course there's bugs, it's software), I'll still give it a shot.

As far as I've read and been told by others, Vanguard actually holds a challenge. Unlike WoW, which is simply a braindead, meaningless XP/Gear-grind. But only time will tell if it's going to be successful, and the market for MMO's is fierce. If it can't fulfill the hype, it'll end up on the long list where games that doesn't add up lies (Ryzom/RF Online, anyone?)

ya i was just reading this review: and i'm liking it. The game doesn't look like it will be for chumps. Challenging and implying you actually have to think about your actions as each may or may not have influence somewhere else.

I already preordered it, and am in the processing of downloading it now. My real concern is that I _BARELY_ meet the minimum specs so I don't know how its going to work out, and infact i'm under with only 2.0 GHz. so hopefully it will work out

Froob opions?

It's a Sony game so you have two options you can pay $14.99 monthly to access just this game, or you can pay $24.99 to get Station access which gives you all of the Sony games and minigames.

I stopped playing anything that Sony has a hand in long ago. I think my bias will remain intact as theres plenty of non-sony options iut there that are just as shiny.

What's the difference in paying 14.99 and getting access to one Sony-game, or paying 14.99 to get access to for example WoW, EVE Online or AO?

Yay for good old SoE-hatred, heh. Of course, your money, your choice.

I can also add that the ONLY reason there's an SoE-tag on the game, is because the devs wanted to use SoE's systems in terms of payment-handling, hosting and such things. That's the ONLY thing that's SoE. They don't have anything to say in the lifespan or developement of Vanguard.

And before anyone starts harping that I'm a Fanboi; I played SWG during the CU/NGE-era. Anyone that played during that time knows what SoE-hatred is, including me.

dayyummm

Gameplay: 9. Monster land mass to discover over three continenets. It's not for the faint of heart; leveling takes a long time. Plan on spending close to 1200 hours of play to reach level 50.

Graphics: 8. Vanguard uses a highly customized Unreal 2.0 engine. Five years ago it was state of the art, today it just alright. But Sigil has done some great things with it. Animations are strong, abilities particle are good. The graphics aren't cartoonish, but built on Keith Parkinson's fantasy paintings they have a water color feel to them.

Audio: 7. There are tons of audio effects. They range from NPC speech to PC grunts. And there are hours and hours of background music.
Interface: 8. The interface follows conventions establsihed by Worlf of Warcraft. It is functional and well implemented. Some customization is possible and has been done by a few players.

Lag & Stability: 7. For the most part the lag monster has been tamed. If you get a large number (in the high hundreds) crammed into a single chunk, the chunk might crash. The game is quite stable; however, Sigil has been hard at work over the last few days of beta getting hundreds of people in a single area to squash stability issues.

Support: 8. Sigil has had a high in-game presence during beta and on the beta boards. Developers consider it a pleasure to interact with the players. With release, Sigil doesn't have a forum presence. This may cause some issues. Players need to rely on affiliate sites to get their information.
Overall: 9/10
