Ok I have to admit that that was a rather bad manuver. Not sure what he was thinking about but it was probably something along the lines of.
"Empty net. Oh wow I'm going to be the big hero. Going to be buried up to my eyebrows in nubile young willing. WTF I zoned out and passed the net. Ack defenceman! Oh god no! No I'll never live this down. Coach take me off the ice so I can kill myself. I wonder if I can even get pity sex now."

Yeah here in dallas that was all we heard about the next day. I haven't seen the video of it though til now... Yeah that was sad...
