anyone want to sit out the LE release with me?

Postby Sporkleet » Wed Dec 13, 2006 11:03 pm

well LE is supposed to go live at some point this day/night. and thus I will not be anywhere on RK until monday or later. why? simple I will wait out the mob rush and let bugs get noticed before any damage occurs to me :P there will be a rush on the servers as soon as they go live and then through the weekend there will be heavy usage I am thinking monday the start of a work week will be lighter for me to DL the patch and give me time to read the reviews of new quests and object recently introduced instead of running around like a headless chicken as soon as the gates are opened. See you all on Monday !

That sounds incredibly sensible and practical... but I'm still jumping on tonight if they get it up in time for me to still get to work tomorrow - I want to see if the servers come up and go straight back down again ;-)

I'm actually a bit shocked that an engine as old as AO was only estimated at 12 hours for an expansion.. Brand new engines out there often take upwards of 24 hours to implement a major patch, much less a whole expansion. If they can keep it under the big two-four, I'll be impressed. :)

i remember a time when i sue to play SWG they had a 12 hour downtime. Good part about that was the double xp we got because of that...would be nice for something like that to happen here. >:)

I'm not going to be waiting it out technically. I've actually already patched. However, I'm so far behind with Christmas shopping I don't know how much online time I'll have this weekend. But I'm going to try my best since I know there are parties to be had. :) (w00t for Christmas phats! )

Having said that, I wish I had waited it out at least from a forum standpoint. The whining on the AO forums is starting to really get to me. I've attached the label "Veruca Salt" to the extreme whining that's going on. << Funcom lied! Wah!! I didn't get my LE or my Oompa Loompa instantaneously on launch day! boohoo!!! >>

I'm all for people whining non stop on the forums. The more they do that, the less time they spend on world and the less chance of me ever having to run into them!

i'm seeing extremes to both ends ... people whining wayyyyy to much, and people that are complete fanbois where funcom can do no wrong. (and both are equally annoying and should not post at all on the forums spamming up legit feedback)

In my opinion people who waited out were the smartest. To do the two major additions for LE content you don't even need LE (alien missions and battlestations).

$30 bucks got you a personal mech that needs to be researched for (no biggie IMO), and Research lines (although AWESOME in concept, the execution and way they are currently behaving on Live Dim is something to be skeptical over).

For Lost Eden as an Expansion Pack I give it a 6/10 - Lots of potential, but lacking on many ends.
Conceptual Ideas: 8/10 (excluding the "brilliant" devs in charge of MP's)
Execution of said Ideas: 4/10.

I understand the push to get the product out the door before christmas and before the release of Burning Crusades ... but once again it appears as if an incomplete product was rushed to market. Not to say I don't have faith they can fix the bugs in a timely manner, which would be nice, but I'm also not holding my breath with it. I've loved the game too much to be just let down again, so this time around i'm taking an apathetic approach and just swtich games when I get too frustrated with being let down on what I think AO could be in an ideal world.

If Lost Eden was marketed at a Booster Pack (which it kinda is) and prices for about half ($15-$20), I'm sure people would still be unhappy, but at least product kinda equalled the value spend. Right now ... not so much.

Well written review... I didn't get LE yet, and your review makes me glad I didn't. If I get it, later on, it will be after some major price dropping :)
