Lost Eden Beta Invite

Postby Dynamiks » Sat Dec 09, 2006 3:24 pm

Ladies and Gentlefolks

I have just recieved an email supposedly from Funcom inviting me to the Beta of Lost Eden.

The reason I am posting this here is because it is possible my email address was sourced through this site - so I figured I had best warn you all!!

This email request that I sign an agreement initially and this agreement asks me to submit a user name and password.
Password raised huge red flags....
So I hopped into game and petitioned.
a GM answered my petition and after some discussion, confirmed that the invite was almost identical to the beta invites he had seen except for the password being required.

The whole thing is now in the hands of Funcom staff via support and hopefully no one will be silly enough to actually submit their account details!

I'll update this thread as I hear more!

Please BE CAREFUL!

I got the same e-mail twice. On the last one they actually got the nerve to apologize for sending me wrong account information and claimed they corrected it to the second (it was still wrong).

Also notice that the company name and address on the post dont match with those in the game EULA

So be careful

If you're in doubt, check the MIME-header of the Email and do a traceroute and/or check the MX-information through the NSLookup-command. Also run the IP-addy of the originating server through RIPE.net's whois-database (assuming it's in europe, that is). You can also do a tracerounte of the HTTP-site that it tells you to go to and see where it is hosted/who owns the IP-address/range of it. If it's not owned by Funcom, it's most likely a hoax.

It never hurts to be paranoid about these things.

Funcom, GM's or ARK's never asks for your password,
nor do they need to as they can handle account
and character stuff using special tools directly!

Your password is for YOUR EYES ONLY!

The same goes for GridStream website and forum,
we never ask for your password,
nor do we ever need it!
