And in other ironies

So I was reading this news story earlier about how John Kerry made a wholly stupid comment to college kids that if they didn't do well in school they would be "stuck in Iraq". Evidently he misworded what was supposed to be a joke aimed at Bush. Ok, so in his response to Kerry's comments Bush made the following statement:

Our Fearless Leader wrote:Anybody who is in a position to serve this country ought to understand the consequences of words.

I would like us all to just take a moment to consider the complete and utter irony of this statement.

A little while back The Daily Show had a segment showing different clips of the President explaining what his job was about on many different occasions. The explanations they showed kept getting more general in the terms he used till the final one they finished the bit with was a clip of him saying "My job is to do my job"

i think Kerry needs to get sent to Iraq, that douche has no business to talk smack on teh soldiers over there, but all that prick cares about is his political career, i hope he dies in a slow agonizing way

Kerry's a bit of a pompous prick, I'll grant you that, but he wasn't intending to insult the troops at all. He was saying "Do well in school or Bush will find something else for you to do." His intent was to hate on Bush. Can't blame him one bit, really. He could have stated it better, but that's 1 misspoken faux pas for Kerry, and somewhere around 400,000 for Bush.

so how dose doing poor in school have anything to do with the military, I had to take a test to get into the military and I'm still having to take classes and test all the time sence I have been in...
I hate the mis consepions of the military
I dont care that he was bashing Bush with that comment cuz it was still a rude and heartless comment non the less!

yes Bushisms abound in the media... even my man Rush used the term 'strateg-er-y' he is a college educated man he should know better. (havent listend to him since. Bush has done some stupid things and also some smart things, but the man holding office representing us to the rest of the world should be a little better versed in the english language. Fire the speach writter that uses crayons, and stop competing with Bazooka Joe comics for the jokes.

About the Iraq war... hell war makes the economy strong... but why Iraq? Throw a dart at a world map and you can get a more logical target. Even if sadam was the devil incarnite sitting on a stockpile of bio-chem and nuke weapons ruleing his country with an iron fist... there are many many more countries that fit that scenario that we have yet to decimate their forces... Iraq had the 4th largest standing army, before the gulf war... there are other countries that have larger forces than Iraq that pose the same beleived risks to us. If were gonna be spending ammo let it be for something other than just to have something to do

I am going to stay as far away from this topic as I can.

Not trying to open a can of worms here. My initial point was the extreme irony of Dubya commenting that Kerry should carefully consider the consequences of his words. This was meant to be a funny posting. Not a political debate.

Oh, what the hell.... I THINK (from what I've gleaned) was that Kerry was TRYING to make a sort of "draft dodger" joke. As you prolly know, back when the draft was enstated for Vietnam, if you were in college you were generally exempt from the draft. Kerry was trying to say "Stay in college or you might get drafted at the rate Bush is going". I also agree that Kerry is a pompus ass, and if indeed he just "botched" his joke, it was still a fairly stupid coment. Either way, it is still just being politicized as the Pub's grasp for some hope in the upcoming mid-term elections. When I first read all discontent from the military type, I thought it was kind of silly. It's quite absurd to think that our armed forces are a bunch of uneducated boobs. I personally know at least half a dozen academia type that went to West Point and VMI. But I also know at least half a dozen kids that didn't know what they wanted or how they could afford to go to college without the military. Either way, I think that as a majority we agree that our armed forces are astute and brave folk....to make such a fit about another stiff neck, wildly out of touch politician is just a waste of good energy.

Edit: And good point Vali...sorry I posted this before I read your last comment.

I have no love for Kerry either. Just the thought of him in the government sends a shiver up my spine. But, I have to agree that the media has blown this WAY out of proportion as usual. Yeah, he worded it very badly but it was definately a mistake. No one would be stupid enough to say that on perpous this close to the elections. I bet he is beating himself up bigtime over this one. *snickers*

Can we just pretend I didn't post this? I promise if we just let this go away I'll make no further attempts at political humor.

I get it Valli! :)

Love to all the ones that are over there though. My Maid of Honor is over there right now, and will be taking her leave for my wedding date. She's a smarty pants.. She went to West Point and all that jazz. I'm proud of her and also all the people I went to highschool with because about 80% of the people in our JROTC went to Iraq. I was part of the 20 cause I ended up not joining.

I don't like politics.. I live that up to my fiance to get a headache over, he likes that stuff.

Locking thread per Valli's request, and my general opinion that politics and general forums do not mix.
