Some of you may be aware that I've been compiling a list of songs that contain Cowbell with the idea of trying to sell one of the DJ's into doing a all Cowbell show so that myself and the

MORE COWBWELL!!!

People would be content. After much painstaking research and queries down at the record store and other musical venues. After long discussion with Nexeus about how Cowbell was the wave of the future for Rap and Hip hop. (He laughed at me. Still love and miss you Nexeus.), After all that back breaking work...

My friend did a web search and 5 min later the list was in my hands. Or on my computer saved to favorites as it may be. Which just goes to show that work is redundant when you have internet. However there are a few ommisions on this list.

"Don't fear the Reaper", The song that started the MORE COWBELL!!!! movement isn't on this list for example. This is a list and not a playlist as it jumps genres and if played as is would make a Frankenstein monster of musical styles. But then we've all heard that before.

"Tonight is a wonderful time", by April Wine is also notably missing.

I'm sure theres more I haven't thought of and I've noticed at least one repeat on the list.

The Cowbell was invented somewhere in the middle ages by farmers who needed to keep track of wandering bovines. For many centuries the music of the cowbell was kept secret and mostly only heard by other free ranging bovines and their keepers. Somewhere during the turn of the 18th century the cowbell began to appear in the assorted bell collections of bell ringers. A musical phenominon that never quite took off and which only still exists in rare Salvation Army bands much to the relief of the general public.

The Cowbell rose to a loftier role in the history of moosic when sit down drum kits started to become a regular feature of four piece bands, Lead Guitar, guitar, Bass guitar. and drums being the usual mix. Thus the Cowbell went from being swung and rung to being struck making it's way into the arsenal of percussionists as well as bell ringers. For the most part the Cowbell remains one of the most underutilized instruments in music except of course for it's continued use by free ranging bovines who unfortunately make lousy musicians by todays standards. Bovines never quite manage to keep a proper beat and Bovine gutar work has been likened to "Might as well just driver er over wit the tractor Bob.". Thus free ranging Bovines are rarily heard in modern music.

If any of the above is factual I'd be surprised.

Good use of the free hand method of using the cowbell. However other clips of the same song the cowbell comes out sounding flat which is the weakness of this technique. When possible cowbells need to be mounted so that their soung is clear and distinct. On other notes the Ladies have an intersting vocal range and ability to produce voice effects. And the hair... My oh my the hair....

So are the B52's a Hair band revival band? Not really as their feel style and dress are more 1950's than 70's.
