Lordi seemed to pwnz everything.
Usually I find most music in Eurovision is crap, but Lordi really stood for sure. Don't think there has ever been a metal band participating before.

Finland = winland.
It was pointed out to me by my Swedish metalhead friend that the christians who argued against Lordi winning by saying they were satanic were more than the normal sense of stupid - They [lordi] apparently produced a song called "The devil is a loser", one is married to a finnish cop who works with kids, and another did something helpful for a church, I forget what.
Just because you look like you came out of hell doesn't mean your satanic, and if it does, big woop.
Pop is going to quake in it's boots knowing that a torrent of other great metal could come in.

Heh. Lordi couldn't have done anything else than won- the quality of the entire contest was abysmal. (Hear me, Spain!) Except for Finland, of course.

I think there was a metal band before,
knorkator, german fun metal though, or they were kicked in the preselections *shrug*. the only good entrys in the last years were the german ones that were more comedy than music, as far as you can call it music what they play there.

Well let's hope this gives that whole joke of a contest some bloody character for once... It's still considered career suicide in England, and I wish it was in Denmark too... But apparently they bloody worship the thing here...
I'm so ashamed of this place at times...

The Eurovision really is the ultimate in post-modern irony.
It is so unbeleivably cheesy, the songs are, as a rule, dreadful. And the voting.. predictable..
but some years, there is a gem.. and this year, not only did Lordi provide a gem. It rammed it into the faces of the huddled masses.. And a very well deserved win indeed.
As for the record score.. whoever won was going to need it.. with 37 countries voting this year (they allowed the countries that were eliminated in the semi-finals to vote also)

Yeah, hopefully this spawns some originality for next year.
The last decades it's been almost a contest of clones, ugh.
I wanna see a mix of rock, classic, opera, folk, pop, heck even techno.
Mix it up so people won't have to vote for what sucks the least like in the past.

I know the feeling. Stateside, still many embrace
american idol.

As the winner usually gets number of copies on next years contest, 2007 might be quite interesting. I really hope more genres, and just generally playskill, will get more volume in the future. Peep show turning into rock show, so to speak.
I hope that Lordi manages to keep the image and mystery of their identities. Some magazines have already announced that they will pay for pics showing band members without masks. Really rude behavioiur IMO, hope none succeeds on it.

I just read about their win - I was really hoping they would.

Awesome. And reading the comments from the band interview after they won, it's great to see them saying things like 'This is a win for rock, and a win for open-mindedness".
