"Serenity 2" Ain't Gonna Happen

"A sequel's unlikely," Whedon told Empire with a note of clear regret, "but it's amazing what permutations of something can happen." But if not a theatrical encore, that leaves... yes, you guessed it, a possible return to the smaller screen. "As long as I was able to service the characters with integrity and had enough money so that I wasn't hampered, then I would love to return Serenity to TV. I love that universe; it continues and those characters live on. There could be a series, there could be a miniseries, there could be all sorts of things. I'm not ruling anything out. I'll let it simmer for a while and see if anyone calls."

Personally, I'll be quite happy if it returns to TV, that would be much better than a sequel to the movie. More to watch. :)

Well, yah, but the key words were letting it simmer a while. :(
I was kinda hoping Fox would get their heads out of their corperate arses and figure out that "Hey, maybe Firefly really is a gold mine." and give us fans what we want. Or, maybe slide it in Sci-Fi's direction (who was still airing the series last I was in the real world); they would probably be more than willing to give Whedon the money he needs to make the series as stunning as ever.

Simply put, I'm afraid that Fox would be the kind of company that would just sit on this little gem and milk it dry without ever putting anything back into it other than the one movie (which, though it was a good movie, still left me wanting more). After all, they're willing to cancel a show like Firefly but let American Idol run for 5 years? Not exactly the best brains in the country running the place, ya know. Then again, most people they cater to probably enjoy watching monkeys flinging poo at each other for 15 hours out of the day more than they enjoy intellegent conversation. ...I do happen to recall their Cops marathons. Nothing like watching humanity at its worst for hours and hours and mind-numbing hours on end, right?

Ok, so it was a rediculously deep post. LOL
I love Firefly. I'd love to see the series brought back. I'd love to see it even if it were in miniseries form. I'd love it even if it were like the Halloween movies where it was 20 movies long. Heck, I'd read it in Dr. Suess books.
It's a beautifully created universe and story that didn't get its fair lot.

you are right jactin it didnt get its fair lot....and fox should know this and scamper to their publishing division and contact Whedon....it rocks!

From the way the different articles read out about the potential future of the series, it leads one to believe that FOX will not be reacquiring rights to air it.

So thank the Almighty Goddess for that one.

Chances are much fairer that we'll see it either on Sci Fi or NBC (since those are owned by Universal).

Well I personally would love to see another series that last a few long years and begs for more like star treck did... I dont go out to the movies often and watch very litltle TV except for a few favorites so thats maybe 2 hours of TV a week

I really really hope it ends up on NBC. I won't ever buy cable TV, so if it ends up on SciFi I'll have to wait for the DVD releases, and that would royally suck.

I'm in the same boat as you.
I watched Firefly on tv until I bought it on DVD, then that stopped...before then? um... Farscape. Gads, when did that series end? A couple of years ago? Oh, I went on a stretch of watching Futurama on Adult Swim for a while. Other than that, my t.v. watching is nil. I dont go to the movies unless with friends (which now live several hundred miles away). 'Cept for Serenity. I took myself on a date for that one. And I didn't even put out.... :x

I'd be happy enough with 1 more season I think. And of course they'd have to go back and work in the time period between the end of the series and the beginning of the movie right? Least as I see it that's what I want.

That's what I want, too, but I have my doubts it'll happen that way. I have a heavy feeling that certain "changes" that occurred in the movie were done for more reasons than just storyline. *coughbudgetcough*

I sympathise, considering Sci Fi is where they host Battlestar Galactica.

I would be in heavenly bliss were a Serenity/Firefly series go back to back with Galactica. :P
