What is your favorite...

Traditional Christmas song?

Sleigh Ride

Contemporary Christmas song?

Christmas Eve Sarajevo

Novelty Christmas song?

The Hanukkah Song... ok...its not a Christmas song technically, but still funny... of course... on Rubika its the 12 Pains of AO. :)

Those are mine...what are yours?

I hate them all.

I can do a mean lounge singer version of Winter Wonderland, though.

They're making the school rock band do Jingle Bell Rock

At least it gets followed up by Hallelujah (John Cale version of the Leonard Cohen song)

I'm sure it's a surprise to everyone, but I'm not at all a fan of the whole christmas... thing... for a galaxy of reasons that I'll save for some other rant ;)

If I had to pick a holiday song... I'd go with Christmas for my Penis by The Vandals... or Oi To The World by the same.

The song from the Snowman... I can't have Christmas without watching and more importantly, listening to the Snowman!

That, scrooge, Men behaving badly and the blackadder Christmas special are all things I need to see every year! If I don't, it's just not christmas!

... This year is going to be such a let down... = /

You know... It's actually rather sad that you all claim to hate Christmas so much... I mean, yes, it's over commercialised and it really does bring out the worst in people... But do you honestly mean to tell me, that you don't at some point during that one night of the year... Feel happy?

I know that once it's all over, once all the BS is gone and it's just me and my family... There is a certain magic there that I'd not trade for the world... If any time ever was to stop a war... I'm not really surprised that it's christmas. I know it might as well have started a few in the process... But there is something about it none the less. When enough people believe it's magical... It really does become it...

I hate Christmas Tm as much as the next man but I really do love Christmas eve... If there is a magical night, this is it... I find it a shame that we sometimes become so stuck in our ways. Being the intellectual elite seems to rob some people of the basic naive joys of life... What's the point of being smarter. Of seing the "truth" if you can't just let go and be happy?
None of us like the shopping, the stress, the work and all that... But for me, that's not Christmas. I wont let it be my definition. My definition is Christmas eve with my imidiate family, and Christmas day with the closests parts of it. All the elements I love, and the people I don't see as often as I'd like. It's only ever a good experience...

If you percieve Christmas to be all the hassle... Then I feel sorry for you. It seems your inner child lost the fight after all. I bet you didn't use to. But it seems some people are unable to let out the inner one, after they grow up... They're too serious for childish pleasure... It's a shame really...

The reason I dislike Christmas is because I really don't see any of my family anymore. I spend it alone. I don't really want to go into details. :(

I currently have two Xmas songs that I can tolerate, not a Xmas hater as such just hate the things that surround it, the extra annoying people on the street. The constant Xmas tunes *bleugh* hence the only two songs I have are The Darkness - Christmas Time, and the other one which I've recently reacquired

That sounds really familiar Jugs, but I can't find it in my music...I did however find another Christmas song by Squirrel Nut Zippers called Santa Claus is Smoking Reefer.

I just also found a song I downloaded called the 12 Drugs of Christmas, but I'm having trouble figuring out everything they're singing since some are way out of tune. Here's what I've made out so far:

12 ?
11 magic mushrooms
10 peyote buttons
9 tabs a' dropping
8 spoons a' snorting
7 ?
6 joints a' smoking
5 Valiums
4 grams of hash
3 pounds of grass
2 ?
and a tab of yellow Sunshine LSD

/sigh

Oddy, my inner child is alive and if not well, gleefully active. But I HATE Christmas more than any holiday, be it High or common.

Why?

Because it is the one time of year that more than any other that humanity takes off its mask, shows itself to be lower than the primates we descended from and mouths a mantra it will never as a collective come to understand: peace on earth and goodwill to all men.

The greed and gluttony this holiday has come to represent disgusts me. The attitudes and actions people do and display make my inner child want to alternately whimper in a corner and throw a screaming tantrum involving a crowbar and a dozen people's heads. The complete and utter hypocracy of Christmas appalls me. It is a bitter, cold and meanspirited holiday that symbolizes the fall of western civilization into an orgy of aquisition.

At no time of the year is the seperation between the haves and have nots more apparent and less cared about. Everything is fake, and I do mean everything. From the plastic mistletoe to the fake sentiments right on down to the forced gritting of teeth in faux smiles that look more like snarls... I can't stand it.

It is the time of year where you are societally pressured into not only professing a faith most don't feel or even understand, but to prioritize your friends, your family, your co workers and your aquaintances for all to see, to judge with your wallet and your ability to tolerate packed shopping malls filled with garbage and to be judged on what cheaply made, unwanted but mandatory loot you dish out to each and are given. Every useless waste of space that you will never use must be recieved with a smile and thanks, despite the fact that the exchange gives no joy to either the giver or recipient.

It is a festival of guilt and envy and discomfort, devoid of any true meaning or feeling that brings out the absolute worst in the people who celebrate it. I loathe Christmas with every fiber of my being. I cry when I watch Christmas specials, not because they are intended to be sad, but because they speak to something that is dead in society -- common decency and a spirit of open and unabashed innocence. It is a grim reminder that many of us, even when we are in a crowd are utterly and completely alone.

There's a reason that suicide rates skyrocket around Christmas time. A very good one.

Thank you, but I'll save my joy and goodwill for Halloween. THAT is a holiday worth celebrating.
