Basically, I agree with X. It's not my job to be a friggin parent when I'm playing an on-line game. They can watch after their own kids' wellbeing. If I wanted that job, I'd have kids myself. While I'd like to think I keep things pretty "clean" in-game, I'm not tripping over myself to change my behavior because of some brat whose parents aren't doing their job.
I may be retired, but I'm GridStream for life.

Yes Yes and Yes..

To all of you.. hehe. The parent that let their 7 year old play, sat there and played with them, the were not left unsupervised.. That and AC never got like AO does at Reets sometimes ;) If anything was 18+ in AC is was the language and that was about it.

I totally agree with you, X, and yes Veldron, we shouldn't have to feel like we need to cover up our 18+ in a game that is 18+.. I never once covered stuff up for that reason.

Just saying though on someone like Ms.Ice's sitch.. I would feel weirded out if one of my students found me in a game "doing" things you wouldn't think your teacher would do :?

I found that a lot of the younger players generally don't roleplay, some do, but few and fair between. Least in my experiance. Since we all typically roleplay in the game it would be hard for people that know us outside of the game to detect us unless we told them it was us.

So, MsIce.. I don't think you have anything to worry about.. unless you are OOC a lot to the people you talk to in game then no worries.. Even if they do play AO, I doubt they would be able to tell that you are who you are unless you told them. So, go on and do what you do normally with your char, and if anyone is "corrupting" those kids, it in return points at their parents letting them play the game that isn't made for them at their age.

Uhm... I seriously doubt you'll find them in reets anyway...
7 Year olds don't do it to be social... They do it to kill and play... To lvl!
The social part is not something they crave, so reets will NOT be attended by them... They simply wont enjoy it the same way...

But then you get the odd person in Reets at times who just runs in, stands there silent a bit, and runs out again. Also those that come in, shout "I am more uber than j00!" and run out, or worse yet stay and stand in front of Laerena(or insert Reet's groupie here) and either not move, or move, or repeat the 'uber' comment a few times, go back to silent nonmotion and finally leave.

or other such possibilities where it could easily be an immature child under 10 or an immature adult over 18...

lol... ahahahhahahhaa so true oddessy

(yanks, sorry peeps, but some places of America just needs to be whiped of the planet...)

SOOOOO TRUE, places wherever a republican lives....
(no offence to republicans but a nwo is comming and you just dont fit in)

and xtrophic, on the censoring, i dont know why anyone should have to cover they're eyes, not let there kids play on, or sensor anything on they're computer, after all, its just something that projects light in a mannor that portrays things. i mean, my mom only disapproves of the pay'ing factor because she doesnt want to pay an extra bill, (my dad pays for it). my mom and dad wish they had more time and money so they could play online with me. but they dont. the point is, the only censoring that is good is sencoring hate, true hate. not with filters but with the media, with our culture. so that it does not exist, only a playful competition should. so that all words of hate mean nothing to anyone but loving friendly words.

Why do people think I'm that I am 16 years old Minimum?

*Total truth. -_-*

Its like the whole damn online world thinks I am old. >_> I Am young! I'm one of these children your talking about dammit, I'm like a year older than Tacz! >_<

Ooh...

People who get offended by anything? *Grabs sig*

America is home to anal lawyers, and soccer moms who are more bitches than god damn she-devils.

We cant play dodgeball, we cant tackle in football, violent video games are offending these anal pricks, violent movies and music is offending them, cursing is offensive, sex is evil, any use of magic or fantasy is work of the devil, blah blah blah

Luckily I have not met people ingame, older or younger, who get offended by nearly anything, forgetting to realize ITS JUST AN ONLINE GAME!

Wow... whoever would have thought he came attached with a fuse?

But I agree... The entire hysteria about it all is unmatched... You don't find a single country noted for the same lvl of ignorant punks as you do around the American bible belt (lack of better term). I'd be stoned and hung if I ever got near that place... Heh, so I wont! But anyway.
How people can justify this hysteria is beyond me. Violent movies don't make people into killers... Never having a GI-Joe or toy gun and thus never gettin rid of that agressive energy does!

Get this (and Im dead sesrious). My mom just walked into my room and said, "Guess what the New York Times said? It said that videogames are the new drugs. blablablablablablablablabla." At that point I kinda stopped listening with two thoughts, "Its all false," and, "The effects of this all are only felt by the psychotic 1% of the gamer population that think, "because its O.K. to kill in a video game, it must be O.K. in real life." She says it makes us irritable and hurts our eyes. Irritable? In the eyes of the beholder, so I cant tell you. But I can tell you the only thing that gets me mad is for someone to say that gaming is bad for you. Bad eyes? I have some of the best eyes in my school (some of us were bored enough to do tests) and Ive been gaming for years. She says its addictive. Well, yes! But whats wrong with addiction if what your addicted to has no negative effects? (And, no, Im not condoning drugs, because they DO have negative effects) Socially Inactive. Ive been here for five-six weeks and, as pathetic as it is, I have more friends here than I had back in Michigan. As a good note, none of these new friends are gamers.

Sorry, just felt like doing a rant on the subject.

Ah yes, and Tacz, someone on MSNBC a bit ago was in full rant to ban Airsofts 100%, after a kid brought one in (Or a squirt gun) and pretended to try and rob a store. It was something to that effect, I think she wanted to ban squirt guns in like a city radius.

You see, it is the parents fault in all of these, yet they are too busy and too lazy, so they blame the companies that produce these things, to try and make it so safe, its not even that product anymore.

The funny thing is, this was the generation that was smoking pot, having very carefree and casual sex, taking acid, listening to music which at the time was hailed as Satans Work.

lol, i love my mom for that, and shes very bueracratical now...she hates the music i listen to, hates how much i play this game, hates AO, but in the end, she loves me with all her heart and i do to. my dad is also a gamer... he was b4 me, (I've been gaming since i was 2 yrs old). i picked up on his habbit, and i think my mom feels left out because she doesnt like the habbit we've got on to. she keeps trying to make excuses to get me off forever or, just for the night. she never understands that my life is mostly online with all yuo guys, and the AO society. AO isnt just a game as most people say, Its a Society. thats why we all love it, its a society much better than the shitty world we live in. in AO, people are MUCH MUCH more nicer than in RL. and since its a game, we take things much lighter than in RL, you can say what you want without being shy. you have a voice

Yeah, but there comes a time when you need to take a step back and look into reality...

I'll be honest, I was addicted to the game, and I used the game to hide from RL issues that I just didn't want to deal with.. But that isn't healthy. So, do yourself a favor and step into that thing of RL once and a while, it'll do you some good, and it will make your mom happy :)

The game is a great escape, but you just can't rely on it. That's when problems get worse, an/or more problems come about.

The Doorway to Van-a-whatzit has a "lifer message" posted on it reminding us to not neglect our jobs, our our families and our pets. Scariest damned thing I've seen yet.

The japanese seem to see the problem people have with using MMORPGs as an avoidance tool. Fortunately for me, friends calling to hang for an evening is still more appealing than any game, including AO.
