Anyway, I'm more into the sory stuff than fragfests.
And to get back on topic *hauls the entire thread back ina loop and ties a knot*
CAVE is a cool albeit not knew concept, I hope affordable consumer
variations become available.
The cheapest head mounted display with 3d/stereo vision, headtracking, plus hand held wireless (or with wire) free floating/hand controller.
Would cost around um... 3500 dollars for a 800x600 capable head gear.
Expensive yeah but not insane.
(PS! That's a full immersion display, i.e you don't see the outside world.)
The headtracking is usually setup as the mouselook or mouse device on games. So instead of using mouselook to look up, to the sides, down etc or target you just move your head. (6 directions ability I think it was)
Depending on the games capabilities, the targeting may be tied to the hand controls tracking instead, thus you get the ability to look in a direction not related to the one you shoot/target.
Which was something that geeked me out when I tried one of those floor VR setups with a ring around so you don't fall etc.
I walked into a room, a door ahead opened, a enemy came out,
I heard a sound aparently behind me as well.
I turned my head back, saw a 2nd enemy.
I pointed/targeted the enemy with my gun, then looked ahead at the first enemy and continued walking towards it.
I pulled the trigger, bLAM, then braught the gun infornt of me and blasted that guy, at which time I heard a thump behind me,
then the enemy infront of me drop a sec later as well
Naturally something like CAVE interrest me as well, esp since it has potejntial of letting multiple persons be "with" you and see what you see.
It also got awsome scientific and educational capabilities.
I still like the head displays tough, and some day I'll have it lol.
(maybe when 1024x768 is common instead of 800x600. (anything lower res should be avoided).
You can get real high qual gear but that costs insane amounts lol.
Better to get a floor VR gear instead then
