sorry if i started to flame to much about smokers....... i guess thats my addiction.

i m realy a militant nonsmoker......

nicotin helps to think straight..... u wrote that while u were influenced by nicotin.......hmmmm......

on the other hand i m not influenced by it.... and i m far away from straight thinking..........but i wont try the shortcut through the serpentines....

......and the smoke/non-smoke areas in reets would be a great thing.

.........

....so before i start to write again how STUPID and DUMB u SMOKERS r, i better quit this thread.........

............i have to wuit this thread.....

So sayth the person typing in Geek Speek........

Guess someone has a problem with letting a Idea Drop?? even though its been proven to irritate the many on here? How bout the stupidity of those who cannot agree that others might have a point? Oh wait thats Just being Narrowminded......

And if your a Militant non-Smoker Muu...then dont hang around those that smoke. Unless ther have been advances in PC technology, I dont belive Im poluting your Air with my smoke right now. This was a Thread to HELP not be a Ass about. If you dont have any thing nice to say, go stand in a corner.

Cold turkey works for some Dark. I known a few who have smoked for 15 yrs plus who just stopped (damn bastards :). Trist has a good point though. The things we do while were smoking (puter, sports, bars, sex) often keeps us smoking (habit) and by changing it (forcing yourself to go outside to have a smoke for example) can break the routine your used to.

Either that or you can just replace it...just start Drinking Heavily...works for me :)

(I wont even start about the absurd idea about a "Non-smoking" area in Reets. If peopel are offended they ignore it. We might as well have a "Non-asshole" area in Reets too, a place you can be to not be constantly spammed by people being greifers and annoyances)

Or the message GSP likes to spread:
"There are bagels in the fridge!"

So when you are having that must-smoke-now urge, go chew on a bagel, with lot's of goodies on it to keep you mind focused on eating the bagel :)
_______

I have thought about one thing and I as you all say (and I know from people around me) it's actually all in the mind. Some say it's only psychic but it's a combination of psychic and chemical balance in the brain. After smoking a while the brain get's used to the drug and sets the state of drugged to the standard state, anything other is abnormal as in when you don't smoke. Anyway basicly this is what the brain "thinks":
"Smoking is good, makes me feel better". This is a true statement since smokers DO feel better after a smoke since it restores the chemical balance that the brain now think is correct.

What if, one would smoke cigarattes that basicly have the same composition, luring the brain to think you are smoking regular cigarettes. But instead they have one addition, they make you feel sick as hell. This should turn things around maybe, maybe in time make the brains think:
"Smoking is shit, I feel like a punk with a hangover" or something :)

Bleh, I am just rambling around here hehe :)... (nothing to do at work but think about relation databases schemes with relations that could probably connect my ass to the friggin DB)

____________

The cruelest way to get rid of the smoking habbit would be to do as they do with drug addicts, throw em in a room and just let em wait it out. This requires tons of time though, and someone to keep out for ye :) (Not very practical for those that work ;))

____________

Another thing that has already been suggested by some is to really do something you can set your mind at 110%. I know this works well, if you have such a thing. When I get into my programming loop I forget to eat´(even though I may be hungry as hell), drink, sometimes sleep cause I want to complete what I am doing.

I offer fact. You offer context-based personal doubt based on a self-admitted dogmatic and militant approach to a subject you previously knew very little about. :P

....so before i start to write again how STUPID and DUMB u SMOKERS r, i better quit this thread.........

Excellent advice. I'd follow it. :)

Errr...

What X said :)

(allthought the idea of putting a bunch of smokers who quit into a big room woudl be a bad one..for there woudl be a great number of fatalities involved).

It itis a drug and like breathing, once you get used to it..its hard to stop :P

Or you could just take up a more addicting drug. Some say that works.

(just kidding)

Keep up the good work Dark, dont give up!! give us weaker Stupid Smokers something to strive for!!

Yeah, the all look up to you now.
If you fail, you will have failed your fellow smokers. But if you walk out from this battle victorious they will forever remember you and you will be someone they will look up to :)

I hold my thumbs that you succeed. Or to quote Dune "Many have tried.. and died". Perhaps you are the chosen one?

Yeah! Personal happiness is No.1

I've pondered giving up smoking too but, well I dropped the concept of that.

Personally I don't think tobacco/cigarettes themselfs is bad.
The nicotine in such small doses cause no real harm.
Yes the smoke is annoying and some people tend to be allergic to it.
(but everyone is allergic to something these days so. *shrug*)

No! it's the darn TAR in the things that is nasty (and a few other minor things).
Those are what might cause or increase the chance of cancer.

I remember some news maaaany years ago, some Swedes was working
on tobacco from some special herbs that gave of vitrually no tar etc at all.
And might give minor bonuses (due to the unique qualities of the herbs).
Sadly that project vanished. So I'm stuck with these damn tar sticks.
It's a wonder I haven't dropped dead yet.

I've smoked about the same amount of time as Metalynx (15 years and there about) too. in other words, statistical smokers.
Sounds like fun eh Metalynx? we're statistical lol.

The cravings of the body is one thing. the craving of the mind is worse.
I smoke way more when watching movies, or listen to music.

When I program or make music etc. I "forget" to smoke. it's weird.
I just so wish tar free cig's was available, that tar wrecks havoc with my lungs sometimes. (and is the reason for the warning labels and fear of tobacco)

Have you guys seen tar? The kind in the tar pits in LA? Or used on roofs?
That's what is in those nanodeths. Mmm lovely.

Naturally during summer I make good money tar'ing the roofs around here tough...

An interesting thing is that certain areas in town here has more pollution in the air than my smoking could ever create.

I think it's mostly a culmination of things.
Modified or sprayed food, artificial whatever and taste/color modifiers.
Electronical pollution, direct self pollution. (i.e smoking and drinking etc)
Gasses/exhaust/industrial etc.
And nature slowly getting out of whack due to us rummaging around as we please.
All this coupled with sociologial and mental health and behaviour
creates one lethal combination of things.
Add stress and the general suckyness of life and you'l realize that every is like ticking bombs around ya, including one-self.
And one day you wont go out with a bang. But a whimper, a whimper I tell ya. Oh the horror, a whimper...

(Dark and nice for ya Metalynx? :) hehe
And I hope I didn't freak to many out,
I was gonna write just 2 lines and look what I did haha...

*grabs the pepsi bottle and sips it, trying to pretend he isnt addicted to that either*

Sorry to hear about you deteriorating health :(

But look at it from the bright side, you will be doing yourself a favor as well if you quit smoking. No more inhaled weirdo shit and more money in your pocket :)

PS. I am sure there is SOME kind of EASY way to quit smoking or get some miracle drug that release your need / desire to smoke. But this method is off the market since the tobacco companies payed major dough to make sure it never came out since it would ruin them. DS.

well, sex causes bad eyes.
but cause we r all sitting hours in front of our screens, wich caus also bad eyes.

so who cares, both is great.

but if we become blind we cant sit so good in front of our screens.

then we have more time for sex.

While I personally look down on smoking- I'm not gonna step into this discussion (too lazy to type something intelligent) so if you're quitting, that's great. :D Good luck Darkenvy, hope you feel better soon! :)

Random off-topic babble...

So there ARE other people out there just as short as I am. Yay. I don't feel so alone about that anymore (god, half my real life friends are over six feet tall, so being about 5'4" makes me feel really short).

Other than that...!

How're you comin' along with quitting? I hope it's still going well for you. ^_^ And ignore the people with negative comments. That's not what you need -- what you need is support and encouragement, and you seem to have friends here to give you that. Despite that I've never bumped into you in game, I know how hard it is for someone to quit smoking (well, at least I've seen it, and helped a few people. Namely some family members), so... You've got my support. ^_^

And Xtrophic was right. If you do quit, you'll give all the other smokers someone to look up to. And everyone needs a role-model.

I've seen someone go from smoking for 20 years to instant cold turkey mainly by realizing they didn't want to be "defeated" by it anymore (pretty much their own words). They changed their mindset & used the sheer force of willpower.

Now if I could get rid of this damn computer addiction like they quit smoking

Well, see, I'll support DarkEnvy 100% on the smoking issue, but I can't let you kick the computer habit, Vil. =p

...Who would I torture on a daily basis, then?

I've seen someone go from smoking for 20 years to instant cold turkey mainly by realizing they didn't want to be "defeated" by it anymore (pretty much their own words). They changed their mindset & used the sheer force of willpower.

I really wish that anomalies like that didn't happen, because it seems that for every 1-in-100 case where it does, it convinces over 1000 non-smokers that it's "just a matter of mood." Like I could quit cold turkey just because I suddenly had the impulse.

Your friend who quit had a chemical rebalancing, likely caused by either trauma or epiphany. This person was likely around or near the age of 30-35, and recently passed through an early mid-life crisis (or is very close to launching into one). Chemical rebalance is not common, but it's definitely not unheard of. I've had a couple of my friends go through that, actually.

I have not gone through it myself, unfortunately.

And it is NEVER just a "matter of mood". Your friend did not use sheer force of willpower. Your friend got lucky enough to either have or cause an epiphany that kept the brain chemicals balanced for long enough to wait out the withdrawal without shooting you in the face just for congratulating them on the way. :)

Here's something that may help..

Make a list of all the nice things you can buy with that money you would have otherwise spent on cigarettes..

Perhaps a new collar or black shirt or something really nice and expensive and leather? :D
