I wasn't going to try AoC after hearing about the split Eu/US servers, but the character creation and fighting system looks interesting enough that I'm actually excited to try it. I'm hoping there's end game content that isn't based around pvp. Not too sure how the servers, guilds, etc will be set up, but I'm game to try! And I'll be on the US servers (unlike in another game).

From what I've been able to gather from the boards, there won't be a forced split on the servers. Meaning that euro-people can roll toons on the US servers and vice versa.

If not....Gods above and beyond I'll be pissed....

I was upset that there were Eu and US specific ones at all. But no worries... If any of the people I know in Europe want to play w/ Phil or me, they just have to go US. ^^ I want to be able to play with people I know irl! I love talking about games at work... and not working...

Btw, registered as Unah on the forum. I don't think Traanse, in any spelling, really fits. xD Maybe I'll break down eventually.

* There will be European and US servers. If you buy a US version of the game, you can only join on US servers, if you buy a Eu version (UK, german, french, spanish), you can join any Eu server. The censorship is based on the dvd key, german version is cut, you will see blood, but no fatalities like chopping heads and limbs off. US version will be uncut now. You could buy a european version of the game in the US, but then you can only join EU servers and will get higher pings and the timewindow for sieging will be late night/early morning for you

http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=58110

Hope that helps. Don't need an US billing address nor is it IP related, the gameclient of the version you bought decides where you'll be tossed at. Just import the game if you want to play on US servers as a European and vice versa.

Okay, I'm going to be pissed now.... As much as I love what I've seen of the game so far, the whole locked servers-issue has me seriously bummed out.

Edit: My search on the boards has led me to the same as Jho said. Which also means that I will NOT be pre-ordering. Hell, I've even started having doubts about getting the game at all, regardless of how awesome it is. Unless, and I don't think Funcom will do this, they open up so that you can actually cross-connect regardless of the key that came with the game, I'll think hard and long before getting a copy. Getting one from stateside is too damn much of a hassle, and somehow I doubt that a gamecard bought here in Europe will be of use on the US version of the game, leaving me doubly f**ed.

*gets off his soapbox to sulk in the corner*

Oh, and I like the Latin form better, too. Particularly for this game environment.

Has anyone been able to find a preorder for US that offers the rhino? I'm getting a b-day present for someone and would love to get it for them or *cough* get it for myself. >.>

I'm very sorry to hear that Miv :-/. What you can do is buy the collectors addition like you wanted and then have someone in the US buy a lower value copy and use the CD Key (just the key, don't have them ship it to you) to play on the US servers. Although I'm thinking that you don't like the theory behind it and won't be bothered to do that anyways heh. Just like Jho posted in that quote. The biggest reason they are doing that is because of NPC Siege schedules taking down your city in the middle of the night and if a ton of Euro's are playing on the US server they will be getting skype calls in the middle night cause the city is getting taken out. (run on sentence? haha)

Nooooo forced time tables ............ so from that what I want to actually do in the game is pvp and sieging .. so with my work schedule I'll have to buy the EU version just to play     according to that quote.

ya that makes me a very unhappy camper.

If that's the way they are going to deal with servers then I'm probably not buying the game either. The split to US and EU servers is bad enough, but then the EU servers are further split to four different servers. And even those are probably split to PvE PvP and RP for every language. That kind of split will basically mean that the european servers will be empty.

I actually wont be buying this game when it comes out, after a lot of research and having been bitten before with Vanguard... I am going to wait a couple of months before taking the plunge.

As good as the reviews are... there as many nay sayers and issues like this server split thing.

I will be keeping an eye on how the rest of you are enjoying it though...

My predictions based on current research = most will be back home in AO after a few months ... Prove me wrong FunCom! :P I'd love to see it work and be all ya want it to be!! (Then I'll come play)

(... heads back to Oblivion because of a crappy net connection today)

Won't be playing AoC, however I do like the guild name you've come up with Meenie, specifically the latin version.

Update: they will be doing an open beta commencing May 1st. Sign up requires a Fileplanet membership (it looks like the free membership is enough).

The problem from my standpoint (and this is a nail in the coffin for me being in AoC) is minimum System req is:
Required

OS: Windows Vista/XP
Processor: 3GHz Pentium IV (mine is 2.20 ghz)
RAM: 1GB RAM
Video Card: Shader Model 2.0 and 128MB RAM: NVIDIA GeForce 5800 or ATI 9800

Recommended

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz (E6600) or better
Vdeo Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 or better
RAM: 2GB or more

I don't know if it will be different for a Funcom game, but WoW has no problem keeping European servers full. Too full. And there are.... um, over 100 I think.

Also, I'm planning on running it w/ a 2.7 ghz processor. I think it will be fine even if it's not as smooth as it could be. I'm not upgrading my computer for one game. I'll wait till next year when there are even more and it truly starts to become painful.

I have to admit to being concerned about the reqs. They are higher than I expected. What I have is...

AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.1GHz
NVidia GeForce 6150 LE
2 Gig of Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit

So I concerned that won't be good enough. :(

Lets not speculate too much as we really have no idea what the situation will be. If you are not comfortable pre-ordering than don't. You will be able to tell in a couple months time if you will want to play :). If you do, you will have a home in Invictrum and we will help you out as much as we can. As for our server though we will be based in the US servers which does mean you'll have to buy a US copy of the game so you can get the correct CD-Key. At this time there is no plan for Invictrum to have a guild on the EU servers.

There is a very good reason why they have split the servers or else they wouldn't have done it. To find out that reason, just read up on Sieges and you will see the light :).

As for the system reqs, I'm sure if you have a computer that is current within the last couple years, you will be able to run the game. The minimum reqs say Pentium IV 3GHZ which is a single core processor. Most people these days have a Dual Core. Even if yours says 2.20GHZ it should be fast enough as you have a dual core (Valli :)) I'm not say'n the game is going to look great as you'll have to turn everything down but you should be able to play. It's still going to be very fun to play even if it's not esthetically pleasing.
