Ashes of Avalon

So I was sitting around the other night looking for the Bill Mahr show on the cable box. My cable box recently underwent some trauma (whether physical or mental I'm not sure, it's not talking to me) and because of said trauma it has ceased to tell me the shops it is showing me. It's like channel surfing jeopardy, I see a show and I've gotta go "What is a Dick Van Dyke rerun!". But I get no prize for knowing the shows other than the knowledge and then the realization that it's not what I want to watch, it's not where I parked my car.

So anyway flipping around Saturday night and something catches my eye. I note the channel, do a little more flipping for any other golden nuggets of frippery, but nothing else inspires so back to that channel.

It's a stark, bleak world I'm seeing with this enigmatic woman who is coming home with some groceries. She starts to prepare some food. She's got something boiling in a pot, chops up some cabbage and slices a slab of meat up. And at the end of it all puts the finished result in what looks like a dog's dish. Hmm, I'm curious now. :o

Well far be it from me to continue a bad telling of 1 scene. A google search has told me what my cable box won't. This is the movie Avalon aparently made in 2000 by Japanese director Mamoru Oshii and it deals with somewhat similar concepts as the Matrix but different and in a very different way. I believe I must seriously rent this movie if not buy it as I came in late and also got distracted by something later and so missed some near the end. If you didn't know of this piece of work I'd suggest checking it out. And if your cable box is talking to you, can you ask it to ask mine if it will talk to me again?
