A New Sci Fi MMO contender, though weak: Imperator

This is an informing post, sadly not a raving one. The game uses the Dark ages of Camelot Engine, and will come out in fall 2006. Excuse me for saying this, but using a dated engine when competition is out, like WOW or EQ2 that has better graphics better coding and overall enhanced aspects, is not the way to win!

It sucks especially with the unique storyline, of Ancient Rome lasting far beyond Ancient times, into the future alongside (And in the game, against) a Mayan Empire.

I doubt this will be a contender against Anarchy Online's Reign, especially with the upcomming enhancements. It might be worth watching, though.

Wait wait wait...

You don't like it despite the story line...

Or you don't like it including the story line?

I was confused.

The way you worded it it sounded like you ment that the story line sucked... but with your sig picture it looks like you do like things involving Rome...

I'm confused.

:D I speak gibberish.

I love the storyline. Great and original, when so many follow the same damn old Western Civilization cultures and themes (Especially prevailant for fantasy. I would give a kidney to have a fantasy world more situated around Arabia or Ancient Mediterranean than Medieval Europe or now the Far east). The idea of breaking our timeline to introduce a "What if" Scenario is uber.

But using an older game engine to produce a game two years later than those which just came out and have new and independant engines that kick the crap out of DAOC's?

I don't like that such a rich and vivid storyline will be wasted. If they were to take until 2006 to make this on a totally unique engine, I would understand. This is taking another older games engine and taking two years to make it.

We need good Sci Fi MMORPGs. :(

I wonder if any MMO will pickup the Source engine (Half-Life2, Vampire: THe Masquerade - Bloodlines)
as it has very good and clever way to handle physics in multiplayer games,
plus it looks gorgeus. And it's network code is quite good too. (CS geeks seem to say it's as good or better than old CS)
And since a MMO would never need realtime twich reflexes like CS etc,
the network code could be tweaked even further...

I'm so hoping Funcoms next two MMO's use the Source engine, but that is just a wishfull dream I guess...
(there is a few MMO's that use engines like this btw. Unreal engine is used in at least one MMO forgot whitch one tough...)

Source engine also scales to the hardware quite well...
(minimum req is a um TNT card I think, not sure)...
