Extreemly odd PC Hardware survey results!

Some common denominator estimates from the steam survey at:
http://steampowered.com/status/survey.html

Internet: 256+ kbit
Ram: 128+ MB
GFXDrivers: nv4_disp.dll and ati2dvag.dll (as i recall, these indicate NVIDIA Detonator and ATI Catalyst drivers)
GFX: Geforce 2 MX +
OS: Win XP +
CPU: 1cpu AMD/Intel, 1.4+ GHz
Screen: 640/800/1024 width.
Depth: 16bit/32bit
Render: OpenGL/Direct3D
Language: English
Filesys: NTFS
Math: RDTSC,CMOV,FCMOV,SEE. (50% SSE2 (newer Intels), 50% 3DNow (newer AMDs))

It's funny to see how Speed seem to be vital, and internetline.
Yet...they cling to old gfx hardware and thus end up using less than 1024 screenmodes)
It should be noted that GF2MX may be the lower common denomiator for Nvidia,
but Radeon 9xxx series seem to be popular for ATI. (9xxxx budget cards are way better than old GF2MX btw)
I understand the devotion to the old workhorse GF2MX (had one myself)
But not grabbing a cheap Radeon or Nvidia DirectX 9 supporting card seems odd to me,
likewise the 640 (and even 800) screenmode seems oddly small.

One would have tought 1024 as minimum and the average starting to lean more towards 1260 or?

Even more shocking is seeing how much RAM seem to be ignored..

What is the point of a 1.5+ GHz CPU if one does not have the RAM nor the GFX hardware
to take advantage of the pretty darn good processing power?

Should one read into the values above the CPU power is not only wasted
but causes a severe performance/speed loss due to the rest of the system being unable to keep up/offload the CPU.
