Awesome music only I know

Postby Farryis » Fri Feb 24, 2012 10:15 am

Since I have a - lets say - "reputation" to request music noone ever has heared before I thought: "Hey, why not give those guys, gals and 'troxes something sweet to listen to?".

The Superjesus - an all time favourite of mine. Too bad they never became really succesful. Released some CDs (mainly in Down Under). I have no idea if they are available in iTunes or Amazon. Still a band worth checking out.

Sneaker Pimps - was one of the groups I had on my mp3-player while I was doing the cycle courier job in the very late 90ties (god, I'm old). I still love them.

TEN - Found them somewhere in a pile of mp3s I kazaa'ed (yes, me - stealing music - what did you expect?). Didn't like them at all, until I found one of their CDs in a 2nd-hand record store, thought "What the heck..." and bought it and discovered I really love their music.

True story: Most of those songs I found through Anarchy Online. No kidding! One of my favourite hobbies is reading webcomics. I discovered Aikida in early 2002. The comic (at the time) was related somehow to MMORPGs (notably AO) and the guy doing the strips often linked music to certain episodes. I always tried to get those songs (and in the days before YouTube this meant pirating them from filesharers). Everyone who has done that knows how difficult it was to find one certain song since most mp3s on filesharing servers had wrong labels.

I ended up with gigabytes of mp3s I had to listen to and discovered many of those musical gems that way.

I got plenty of more in my CD collection. Since I wanted to sort them anyway these weeks I'll try and see if I can find some more stuff you folks might like.

Feedback is appreciated. And be sure to check out those bands (even if they are long gone).

If anyone is interested in a list of notable webcomics... just ask and I shall provide. :D

How dare you say nobody has heard of the sneaker pimps. pshaw. :P
I ♥ Sneaker Pimps. Stop trying to make me feel old, last time I checked it was still 1997. :D

Thanks for bringing them up though... if anyone hasn't heard of them, check 'em out!

Here's a couple more from that album. If the name sounds familiar, you most likely have heard the first one before.

"Low Place Like Home" will always be my favourite since it was the first song of them I found.

I have their CDs. Too bad they started to suck once the lead singer girl quit. But the "Becoming X" album will always have a special place in my CD rack and my heart. :)

Yeah, it's funny how easily most band members can be replaced but a vocalist, not so much. Sneaker pimps were always some good chill out music, along with some Tricky, Portishead, and Massive Attack.

Massive Attack - Hell yeah!

Need to check out the other two bands. Thanks for the recommendations. :)

I got one new band for you:

Quoting Napoleon - a tad country-ish, rockesque and plain beautiful. Found them (like most music) on the 'net. IIRC it was a dub in a modified Firefly trailer.

I love this band. I play this song occasionally, but not a lot of people are familiar with them. Domestic Problems is the band. :)
