On the look for a sci-fi book I read 15 years ago.

This has been really annoying me for years and I've desided to see if someone out there has read these books and can tell me the name of the series. Its basicly what got me interested in Sci-fi when I was a teen and I never got a chance to finish reading the series and would like to read them again.

The story starts with a young woman living on the streets on a world that has an old western setting (I think, not 100% sure there but its a primative planet). She notices these men who's shoes don't get dusty like everyone else's and follows them. Well... it ends up they are from another planet and I seem to remember that she stows away on their ship.

They couldn't take her back right away because they had business to deal with so end up cleaning her up and taking her with them. I clearly remember how they keep clean cause its realy odd. Its this second skin type stuff that envelopes around their bodies and eats any waste like dead skin and such.

The one other thing that I clearly remember from the books is that there are these angel like beings that float around some planet that are rumored to be people that had that second skin stuff on and got sucked out into space.

Anyway, thats all I can remember offhand. Anyone heard of this series?

A big problem with me I rarely read books, spending too much time on the net or other stuff I still have books I need to read. So nope I don't know what's these books about, there is not slavery it's not "Gor" stuff lol...

But telling all that to a good book seller who know it's job I'm sure he/she could help you.

I've been trying various keywords in searches off and on since this post popped up. No luck, so far. :/

But it's bugging me! And I must triumph!

Freck! I have spent the last bit playing "google detective" with no luck. I'll keep trying until I find it.

Can you remember a character name or anything definitive from the book?
