I highly suggest you read all 6 pages of this Rolling Stone Magazine article,
highly educative and and opens up your eyes (or ears as it where) to how "bad" most modern music is quality wise these days. (aka loudness war)

And I bet you did not even realize it, but think about how often you get "tired" listening to most radio, or certain CD's of artists you love but for some reason you can't seem to listen to that cd for too long. (aka listening fatigue)
