I did like the movie, I may have not mentioned that in my previous post, unless I find a movie to be"Frickin' Awesome",like Serenity, I usually just say it was ok.

Like I said however due to it being in limited release the theatre I saw it in sucked so that may have affected my enjoyment of the film. Also I am not really a Cillian Murphy fan so that may also be a factor.

It is playing at my local "art theater" and I was going to go last night, but read some bad things about the last third of the movie turning into just a slasher kind of thing, neglecting all the cool stuff that happened in the first 2/3. I also made a mistake of visiting Fox's spotlight page on the movie (don't do it), which basically tells you what happens to all the crew members.

I also don't like how every movie that is sci fi is compared against Alien and 2001. 2001 is not a movie (it is far beyond that to me, it is art, it is religion, it is science prediction), and Alien is a remake of Howard Hawk's original The Thing. Although Alien is the best example of trying to realize an alien and make it as scientifically possible as they could, that and the tension make that movie one of the best. But the plot is still a remake. 2001 will never have anything close to it ever made. It can be studied for years.

But seeing what you all wrote here, think I will fill my time tonight and go check it out. I sure loved 28 Days Later, except for the theatrical ending. That movie should have ended when the main character looks up and sees the jet, and the observant viewer realizes that the outbreak is certainly contained to just Britain. That was the best scene in that film.

Ok film ranting aside, I'll go check it out myself tonight I hope.

Well, after that ruthless barrage of editorials and nitpickings on the entire sci-fi genre, I can pretty much promise you that you'll hate Sunshine. If only for no other reason than other people liked it enough to compare to 2001.

In my opinion Sunshine is very comparable to 2001 on the premise of hard-sci-fi delivery and personality, but not in it's plot or action sequencing. But I'm not a huge fan of 2001. My RL-spoken review of Sunshine to a few friends has been literally "This is what would have happened if someone restylized 2001 to not be mind-numbingly boring." But that's just me. :)

EDIT: Y'know, the more I think about it, the less I really can compare it to 2001 (which I do respect as a work of art, just more than a couple viewings and I can't stand to watch it anymore hehe). Fact is, it simply has "dramatic reaction shots" to really explosively dramatic visuals, much like 2001 did. That's really as far as the comparison goes.

Lol, Tarryk you really do hate me don't you. That's too bad. I won't lose any sleep over whatever you dislike so much about me. I'm done trying to figure it out though. You treat every post I make like a personal attack against you. That has never been the intention. I just write, and ask questions, and make comments, rants, etc., like people are want to do on forums.

I like you Tarryk, I respect all the work you put into this, and all the time you give to the people and players around you. But, I myself, have never felt anything but disdain directed at me from you. I feel nothing like that towards you in any manner, and don't think I have ever personally gone after you on these forums or in game, or otherwise. But that is ok too, cause I will take leave now, and you can be rid of me in this arena.

*exits for good* I'll see you all at D*C, but no more gsp forums for me. A few have my mobile number, so looking forward to meeting up.

Well there's all kinds of left-field info there that I wasn't aware of. You're not the only one who's confused. Personal attacks? I must hate you? wtf? Oookay, dude. Least you could do is offer a reason for leaving beyond some contrived attempt at making it look like I weaved a subliminal "I secretly hate you" message in my reference to your demeanor towards a movie. I don't suppose it would help if I promised I'm not making conclusions about your movie-watching experience in order to conspire a personal war with you. :P

Or you could just tell me to shut my pie-hole about 2001, drop it and move on. That seems to work too in many cases. :) But whatever, m'friend, I can't do much to console reactions like that beyond apologies. I'm sorry if you think I hate you when I don't. Have fun, here or elsewhere. :)

Ok, having finally seen it...

*happy dance*

I've not had a decent movie in awhile to work my brain. That was amazing.

Thanks for the recommendation Tarryk!

executing nano program..
Minor Thread Necromancy executed successfully..

Okay, finally had the time to sit back and watch this film.. it's good.. but has a lot of Event Horizon to it..

Artistically, I can see a lot of cinematographic links with 2001, certain aspects of style, are very similar.

Enjoyable, but I don't think it is one that I would put on my 'must own' list, more, I'd buy it in a sale..

Who knows.. not really me today, think perhaps I'm someone else.

I only watched Sunshine because it was the reason that kept Danny Boyle and Cillian Murphy from doing 28 Weeks Later.

It was a cool movie. I liked it, even if it was abit too predictable overall.
