SiCKO - Must See

Postby Meenstreek » Fri Jul 06, 2007 2:32 am

I just came back from watching SiCKO, the new Michael Moore documentary on the current US Health Care system. This is definitely his best documentary and not as left wing or right wing as his others. The best review I've seen from this movie as at Rollingstone.com. Take a read and learn just a small bit of what the movie portrays. It's amazing how, pardon my french, fucked up the US is.

While a lot of people criticise how Moore presents the topics in his documentaries, I think it shows a great deal of intelligence. He does not behave like most sensible documentary makers, and for a good reson. He presents things in terms the public understand, the extreme makeover/big brother/know all the advertising jingles and vote for the guy with the best ad campaign not the one with the best policies kind of public.

Coming from a country with nationalised healthcare I've always been TERRIFIED by the nightmare spectre of privatised medical treatment. This certainly hasn't helped my fears.

okay haha....
This documentary is 10000000 times better than any of his others ;). Even if you truly hate his other documentaries this one is still a must see. It's crazy how messed up our countries health care system is.

I've been saying for years that the US medical system is designed not to help people but to strip families of and life savings they might have. You hear stories about medical insurance where the company drops a client because theres a risk they'll have to pay out for ling term care. Or company health plans that drop a person who is injured for life by a work place accident because theres no chance of the person returning to work and theres no legal requirement for them to keep a person who no longer works for the company insured.

Medicine isn't about helping people. It's about emptying their pockets then tossing them on the street. Thats a sad state of affairs if you ask me.

That's exactly what this documentary shows as it has a scene where a hospital put some old lady in a car still in her hospital gown and dumped her on the side of a road. All caught on surveillance tape. Apparently she didn't have the money to pay for her hospital bills.
