Civil rights setback.

Postby Fishi3 » Fri May 25, 2007 8:25 pm

In Canada there has been a general degradation in legal services available to the impovrished. The Canadian Government determined last year that they would no longer pay the bill for Humanitarian rights cases before the United Nations brought by Canadians against the Canadian Government. I'm the first to admit that Canada has in fact a worst treaty record than the US when it comes to aboriginal rights. This article is another example of how Right Wing economics is used as a sledge hammer against the poor either directly or indirectly. While the legal right to council in criminal cases remains intact this ruling pretty much assures a host of Me too legilation by every province in Canada as they scent the chance to save a buck at the expence of the poor. The Poor being the silent voiceless majority.
