How does this happen?

Postby Vallikat » Mon Jan 08, 2007 3:35 pm

Today I had an appointment to take my car into the dealer for a safety recall. So I get there and while I'm still sitting in my car I take my house key off the ring so I can hand the guy my car key. I get out of the car, walk into the building, give the guy my information, and just that fast I lost my house key. I looked all over for it. I looked in my pants pockets, my jacket pockets, the counter, the floor, in the car (twice), and my purse. No luck. No house key. I cannot find it for anything.

Ok, so I was taking the shuttle home to wait for my car anyway, so I just ask the guy to take me to my work (right down the street from where I live). I just asked our locksmith to help me break into my house. So all is fine. I have a spare key here, so I'm good.

But here's my question. How do things like that just disappear? I remember as a kid losing several pairs of glasses in my bedroom. I never would find them. When I was around 13 I got a new bedroom suit. I remember thinking that when the room was emptied out of the old furniture and carpeting, I was going to find 3 or 4 pairs of eyeglasses. No such luck. They were just gone.

We all know the mystery of the disappearing socks. Where do they go? Do lost things slip through to an alternate dimension? What happens?

It's gnomes. They are the ones who take keys, socks, clean underwear, wallets and whatever. And they give back empty beer bottles and sometimes when you sleep they use your mouth as an ashtray. They probably do it for profit.

its called a time paradox. When someone travels from the far distant future things can easily go wrong. See valli what likely could have happened was that the traveler came through and stepped on a cigarette that was supposed to burn all the way down, but never burned resulting in a time displacement. Th results of the cigarette burning all the way down never happened and so a secondary effect was needed for the end result which may likely have been to stall you from walking across the parking lot at a different time than what you actually walked across the parking lot, which could have resulted in a fatal accident, something akin to a hit and run; which the burning cigarette on the pavement was meant to catch your attention as the filler started to burn off a thick black smoke, making you want to go over and put it out yourself. However since the cigarette was accidentally preemptively extinguished a secondary event was needed to stall you so the traveler (a long distanced relative to you) had to think quick and then suddenly remembered that one of their ancestors complained about loosing a house key that very day and that your were indeed that ancestor! So the traveler slipped around behind you and snatched the key from your hand without your being aware just moments before getting sucked back through the time portal. Its all really very simple.

Jugs that is scary, but at the same time happy to know you got them back.

I lose things all the time for them never to show again.. And I found the secret to our socks disappearing.. It't name is Bevo and he's the cute furry thing I like to call my kitty.

He steals socks like you wouldn't believe... He sneaks into the dryer while I am putting closes in and he's out with a sock without me noticing til I find a wet sock on the floor.

Lost items.

Postby Fishi3 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:12 pm

The fates weave the fate of all humanity upon their looms and being busy can not take overly much care for any one weaving. Threads cross and get lost or twist into other peoples weave. When an item gets attached to a thread that gets missed or moves to someone elses weave it disappears from our lives till that thread once more weaves it's way into our lives. In some cases this never happens in others it may be days, months or years till once more fate weaves that thread into our lives.

Organised people seem to lose less items this way and the explaination for that is that when you are organized your weave is tighter and thus the threads of your life are tighter and get lost less often.

Thought I'd give you a Ancient Greek point of view on this phenominon.
