Today I had an appointment to take my car into the dealer for a safety recall. So I get there and while I'm still sitting in my car I take my house key off the ring so I can hand the guy my car key. I get out of the car, walk into the building, give the guy my information, and just that fast I lost my house key. I looked all over for it. I looked in my pants pockets, my jacket pockets, the counter, the floor, in the car (twice), and my purse. No luck. No house key. I cannot find it for anything.
Ok, so I was taking the shuttle home to wait for my car anyway, so I just ask the guy to take me to my work (right down the street from where I live). I just asked our locksmith to help me break into my house. So all is fine. I have a spare key here, so I'm good.
But here's my question. How do things like that just disappear? I remember as a kid losing several pairs of glasses in my bedroom. I never would find them. When I was around 13 I got a new bedroom suit. I remember thinking that when the room was emptied out of the old furniture and carpeting, I was going to find 3 or 4 pairs of eyeglasses. No such luck. They were just gone.
We all know the mystery of the disappearing socks. Where do they go? Do lost things slip through to an alternate dimension? What happens?
